Username Policy Change
I do not like the new username policy. It fails utterly in its stated mission, to make all usernames feel unique. I've been using the username CoffeeLich for some time now, and it felt fun, unique, and creative and it fit for me. This new policy has forced me to to change my username by revealing that actually someone else already has that name. So in the attempt to make my username feel unique, it merely made plain the fact that it isn't.
Thus begins the scramble to come up with a new name that captures the intent but is different. This just results in hundreds of variants on the same username, highlighting how unique they aren't. The discriminators are the perfect solution to this problem by giving everyone a unique account code to differentiate themselves, and I can see no good reason to remove them. The claim that you had to memorize your discriminator is also absurd. You only ever need them to add friends, which you can only do while signed in to your account anyway, which thus displays your discriminator to you.
This new policy fails in its stated goals, and does not serve the purpose it claims to. This is a change that negatively impacts the community for seemingly no purpose. I hope that this is a change that gets reverted as time goes on. And if not, I suppose I'll be looking on to any future Discord competitor, much like when Discord functionally replaced Skype.
