New blurry preload of images is annoying

I'm using discord windows desktop and a behaviour just changed today: before an image is fully loaded it will show as a very blurry preview that once the image is loaded fades into the real image.
This is incredibly annoying, it
1) Makes me think someone sent a blurry image, or something I have to zoom in to see the details, but no is just discord lying to me
2) Adds an animation to a huge chunk of my screen for something that doesn't need to be animated: it's an image, either have the small spinning dots to tell me you are alive and loading it, or show me the image. Don't delay the image because you need to do a cool fade in.
3) only happens with directly embedded images, gif and images from link embeds, so I can't even get used to it since the rest of discord behaves the other way
The effect only lasts less than a second and happens only once so I can't easily provide pictures of it.
I haven't seen much talk of this yet, I'm assuming this is a new feature slowly being rolled out to see the feedback. Here's the feedback: I hate it not only because it's new and therefore annoying, but because it lies and it distracts at random times.
