A dangerous trend

First the app would ignore certain notifications, and we ignored it. Then it wouldn't update chats unless we force quit and restarted, and we ignored it.

I think you see the point I'm making - this UI change isn't the first change to the mobile app that's caused massive upheaval in your base, and if the trend continues you'll be cooked. For better or worse, you're an application for social gathering around gaming and otherwise consuming media. You should know your hardcore audience is going to be picky, resistant to change, and have high standards around technology. You also have made a big deal around your accessibility features in the past. So it shouldn't be a surprise to you that people are upset when your app is janky, and your new UI is hard to use.

If you're rebranding because you aren't making money, I won't blame you. but know this is a sink or swim kind of decision - you have individual users holding you up, and you're actively cutting that rope so you can reach BigTech's hand, with no guarantee that it'll be offered at all.
