A full breakdown of everything I dislike about the new UI
In the old layout, the discord app felt open and easy to navigate, like all of the conversations, servers, and people you could reach were easily accessible at any moment. With the new layout, for multiple reasons, using the Discord mobile app feels claustrophobic, limiting, and difficult to maneuver around, not to mention the new color scheme makes the entire app feel stiff and harsh. In no particular order, here are a few of the most pressing issues with the new layout;
- Being able to swipe to see server members was very appreciated; it made it very easy to see what members of a server were online, see their statuses, and access their profiles. While this method felt smooth and natural, giving the impression that the Discord app was one large screen, opening a fully separate page that takes longer to load feels laborious, isolated, and very unnecessary. Replacing this swiping function with opening a reply feels entirely unnecessary as well. The old method of holding and selecting was not an inconvenience, and the immediate access of the swiping method is not at all needed. Many users were not using the reply function nearly as often as the newfound ready availability would imply a need for.
- Dms used to appear at the top of the servers bar, making it very easy and intuitive to see who notifications were from. With the new fully separate window, it takes more time to check your dms, a difference that is extremely noticeable for people who check their dms often, such as avid users like myself. Also, the newfound inability to swipe away from dms to return to the servers tab feels pointlessly rigid, creating nothing but inconvenience. These changes make dms feel separated and difficult to connect with.
- In the old dms section of the app, swiping away from a dm would not close it, allowing you to easily check where other notifications are coming from, without having to lose your place during backreading, as well as making switches between dms and servers feel seamless. The ability to swipe back into the dm, not having to select it again, also greatly elevated ease of use.
- There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to remove the ability to see images within pinned messages. I can not comprehend why on earth anyone would think that would be anything but an extremely massive downgrade. You have made pinned messages almost entirely useless.
- You have completely overridden many avid users' sense of muscle memory and familiarity with your app, alienating them and making them feel as if they are unfamiliar with the app they have used for many years. Have you ever used a new program that you don't understand, and had to struggle to figure out where all of the functions were? Was this something you enjoyed? For most users, this is something irritating, stressful, and discouraging. This is how we feel simply using your app after these changes.
In short; add an Old UI option or I'm canceling my nitro. Thanks!

I would suggest cancel your nitro now until you get the old ui back

Yup. Cancel nitro, keep flooding the forums and support and anything else you can find, lets make this as much of a pain the ass for them as it is for us.
