Account disabled: "Image CAPTCHA" and spam filters. Don't copy and paste images from weird accounts.
This just happened to me yesterday but apparently it's not an uncommon occurrence. Thought I'd post it here just so people know what's going on and in the vain hope of this gains traction something can be done about it.
There are a few threads like this already: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/20230798165015-Account-was-disabled-scammed-for-my-username-help-isn-t-coming-Final-update
The scam proceeds the following way:
1. Someone will message you and eventually invite you to a server
2. As part of the server verification process they will ask you to fill out an image CAPTCHA that consists of 4 apparently innocuous images, one of which is different from the others. They will ask you to copy and paste the different image.
3. This image is caught by Discord's spam/abuse filter and your account is immediately disabled with no recourse (I've read several threads related to this issue and in no case was anyone able to get their account reinstated). While the image itself appears entirely innocuous, likely it is a screenshot from CSAM or other illegal material that is contained in Discord's filter.
4. After a period, the disabled account is deleted and the scammers will register an account using your handle (especially if it is a rare one)
Discord Support is not responding in any way to queries of this nature. Either they don't believe claims by people reporting this, lack the capability or will to verify these cases as distinct from actual illegal activity, or simply think a certain level of false positives is acceptable for their new system. Either way, it doesn't appear solvable.
Just putting this out there in case it averts this happening to anyone else. If you're a victim of this I think the best bet is to contact Discord Support on Twitter - maybe if they realise it's not just a handful of people but a possible larger group they might do something about it. If you're reading this it's probably too late though. If someone appears sus don't even talk to or entertain them, there are many ways they can exploit your account.

Support isnt reading that forum. The only way to contact them is via ticket.

If we keep making more and more noise they will maybe realize that they are playing right in the hands of the culprits. We need to continue making these type of posts and hope for a miracle to happen.

I already have a ticket in the system (#42576973) however I received only a standard response from ‘Clyde’ indicating my account woild not be reinstated. I have not been able to get any other responses from any official channel since that reply, although the ticket remains open

I actually think the other guy is right in that Discord does not pay any attention to this forum. I think the last response to anything on this support forum is more than 4 years ago. It's best to reach out through other channels like Twitter in the hope that someone notices and passes this information on to the right individual.

You are probably right. I think we should also refer to all the community posts in this forum (including this one and the one you linked on top) when submitting tickets. I think it just helps if the staff can see that it affects multiple people.

This AI detection thing is the only reason the scam even exist in the first place.

This has apparently been going on for at least 2-3 months, so I'm not optimistic. Honestly speaking I've come to terms with it, after trying almost every avenue and coming up with nothing I'm not sure I want to lose more sleep and energy over it.

Yeah, best to move on and create a new account, these “support” agents don't exist. They are all bots that send copy pasted messages instead of actually helping

Best course of action is to lay low and starting to think what's next. Im sure we all paid for nitro so I would get a lawyer and start a case. Get your money back, let your bank know. I also would stop supporting Discord as well as let all your family and friends know whats going on. Best that we can do for now.

Got hit by the exploit, sent the captcha, and now I'm banned. No unique username, seems like a common issue. Time to move on, make a new account. To those upset, it's just Discord—let's keep things in perspective.

Apparently all the kids on discord have been sending this picture and using it as a “troll” and Discord didn't like this since the full video was deemed as CP. But now if you send that picture you get banned. Many people have been using it to ban many other people, even their friends as a “joke” whether or not you're account was old or had a unique username. Nobody is mainly targeted. My friend literally tricked me into this and I got banned, that's how I found out about it. Honestly, it's just a bunch of trolls going out of their way to get you to be banned out of cruelty because the same people who get you banned don't even end up having the name, it eventually gets sniped by bots and by then it's too late for Discord to do anything. This is for the people with unique users who think they are getting targeted, I'd say that's very shallow as there has been hundreds of thousands of people innocently banned for this months ago. I'd say your best bet is to move on.

Jamie That might be the case for many, but there is a scam targetting users for names using this image. It's a specific discord server people are invited to under different guises. Several of us have been targeted specifically during the holiday season. The names I know of are water, luffy, 77. The ppl targetting also said so after the fact and/or introduced the server as one of the oldest members of discord and they reached out by searching for unique names.
Some of us care because we have 8+ years of history. We don't have kid friends who insensitively troll us into losing our account because they know that we care about our history and contacts. It's not shallow at all to see something for what it is. If we got targeted and someone is exploited their knowledge of this image getting ppl banned and knowing the context of it, naturally we feel wronged (as we are) and will try to do something about it. Having an account for that long without falling victim to trolls and spammers and whatever shows we are not particularly gullible either. We were all approached differently, but basically, they used the psychology of being a normal person just trying to strike conversation and or make friends and then sooner or later invite you to their server to meet some other chill ppl.
