hiding photos on direct messaging

With all the options I have for pictures sent to me in direct messaging, I really wish there was a  temporarily HIDE PICTURE option. Sometimes you receive a picture you don't want to share with everyone in the room, and the only way to hide it is by frantically sending messages until it scrolls off the top of the screen (or using your hand and hoping you don't hit the little CALL button by accident). There should be an option to hide /unhide a picture that has been sent to you.
