The new desktop UI refresh is unfortunately bad.
The new UI on the desktop App is so clunky and bad. I understand the desire was for this to be symmetrical, but this UI fails at it.
I do not mind that my profile icon on the bottom left is now on top of the server icons below, and I like being able to choose the in-app icon.
That is where my positive feedback ends. Everything I profoundly dislike:
-
The server icons are now small, and that you can't resize them. I have bad eyesight and it is now difficult to see which server I am scrolling over unless I hover over it. I used to do it by pictures. Why did you reduce them? And remove the ability to change the size? I don't want to have to zoom in EVERYTHING on the UI, I just want the icons bigger. Let me change the size of the server icons, it's antithetical to your accessibility changes.
-
I can resize the server text/voice channel list but I can't resize the members list? I like to have that open but now it takes an unfortunate amount of space and again, I can't adjust it. Why are features that allow me to customize what I want to see removed? Stop trying to decide for me - we're clearly at odds. Let me resize the memberlist section.
-
The UI is incredibly colorblind unfriendly, especially if I'm in a VC. I can't tell where the little UI window for the voice channel features are and against the background of the Discord channel/DM list. It's really frustrating. It had a distinct border around it before, and different sections so it was easy to know where everything is; this one feels like it's crammed.
- This is an overall frustration with all things UI, even from before: I never wanted to participate in testing out the ability to see Server members' Recent Activity at the top of servers. I'm not the admin in those servers, I can't choose to turn it off. I never want this information. The fact that I was “selected” for it and have to “test” these out, but then I can't opt out? That's jarringly stupid. You don't even notify people when they're selected to test it out. Don't opt me into things I can't opt out of, especially when it's features that I can't imagine anyone wanted, and I certainly don't want.
I can only write 2 short things about what I like. And then everything else is just such a big, big negative. Stop changing the UI or stop telling your community that you actually listen when you evidently don't. No one is asking for an overhaul, they're asking for new features/customizations. Your UI overhauls remove customizations and that's antithetical. Instead of all these UI and overlay changes, why haven't you done anything to combat the massive amount of random bots that add people to spam them with garbage? Or work on making your Report feature actually encompass infractures better instead of trying to shove nuanced situations into ineffective blanket categories? Why do your priorities seem to lie with changing what isn't broken?
I was already on the fence about cancelling Nitro and cancelling all of my server boosts, but this UI change confirms that I am going to fully cancel this. And please, for the love of GOD, don't ever “randomly select” me to test out a new feature. I usually love testing and providing feedback, but every time I'm selected, I just sigh to myself and think, “god damn it, they picked me.”
