no cellphone to verify
there should be an alternative way to verify for those who do not have a cell phone.

Discord now requires monthly payments of atleast $10ish (cheapest mobile plans available in the USA). Not only that but now they indirectly discriminate against Canadians due to how expensive mobile plans are here because a few companies have monopolised the market. $25 a month minimum is now required for Canadians to use Discord... I'm lucky to have not yet been required to verify my account via mobile number, but can't join servers that do...

Oh well. If I have to pay for something, back to TeamSpeak I go.

Yes, there is so many alternatives to Discord : TeamSpeak, Mumble, no need to waste time with this sh*t. Especially Mumble, it's opensource, it's very private and you can host your server at home.

Teamspeak and mumble are not very good discord alternatives (In my opinion/because of what I use discord for) because of how different they are and what they are intended for. Slack however, is pretty close... I never use voice chat and require group chat with media upload/embed capabilities like Discord. Also the way bots work, the way you interface with servers and channels. I like how roles work and are displayed, and my favorite feature are emojis because I make them (made over 1000). So this makes slack the only alternative for me I just wish it was more popular. Telegram is interesting and similar to Discord but isn't as user friendly and the servers/channels/groups etc, have features that are too basic for non voice/video chatting...

Please just please unlock my discord account. I am very sad and frustrated by the fact I wanted to join a discord emote servers and that I was going to get nitro today. Isn't that what ReCaptcha is for -.- since I am not a bot and that I have a verified email, I confess I tried using a vpn to get on discord because I love my friends, also my friend shunk and doglover gave me landline numbers and google voice. Please unlock me I just wanted to join servers so I can flex my emotes to my friends and now I am locked out with a screen that says verify your phone number but I don't have one . I guess this is bye bye discord if I can't verify my phone. I can show you my face and call you via google meet to show you I am human. Please reply fast to get this solved I am very sad at this issue I already sent another email before but I didn't say everything now I am saying everything so please help me

was locked out my main (NoodleD#1468) and cannot get back in cuz i do have a phone but discord says the number is invalid and support is litterally garbage didnt help me at all, said they were forwarding been waiting 6 days and NO ANSWER! least if yall keep the phone verification make it so 1. the phone that i pay for on t mobile doesnt say invalid and 2. for the people who doesnt have phones can contact support and get back their accounts cause it aint fair that ima lose ANOTHER account to dumb phone verification

I have been locked out of my account (Kxewe#3503) and I WOULD transfer everything over, but I can't. SO I'm locked out because I don't have a cellphone. If Discord continues they might lose too many customers at one time! Not good!

Yes, i try to join server but i only have a computer but he ask my phone number for sms, it's sad but i can't join sometime server

Horrible approach. I have opened up an e-mail dedicated solely to discord and I have to verify with a phone...
What gives you the right to enable users to use your platform, allow them to gather communications only to wreck it down through such method. Why not ask the phone number in the very begining? And if you allow me to use the service and ask for it afterwards, what if I don't have a phone? And if I do, maybe I prefer to not connect it or have it connected to other account that I prefer not to use and just switched accounts?
Maybe it is time to find an alternative to discord...

whats worse is so much places require *anti bot* which requires mobile numbers which some of us just dont waste our time on mobile
its not an option to switch for me as the groups i need to be in arent on other places and etc

Big old +1 to this. Especially since I already pay discord, as a Nitro Classic Customer, I think it's absolutely absurd that I also have to pay someone else (And, as a Canadian as well, I haven't seen anything less than $70/month, which I cannot afford as a student), in order to verify on discord. Incredibly disappointing.

I am not locked out of my account or anything but discord wants me to put my (nonexistent) phone number to use the find your friends feature….. it want my dang phone number and the ping that I cant get rid is annoying he a ton, I know most of you are probably locked out of you account and don’t know of any way to bypass this, but, if you do please tell me, Also I do have a theory on why they don’t fix the locking out of your account because of a lack of a phone. My idea is that they may be doing something along the lines of selling number to people for adds (once you have someone’s phone number you can easily find out other things about them, I don’t know the details on how it works, nor could I tell you for legal reasons I’d rather not mention if I knew it anyway) and if the price for these numbers is right, then it wouldn’t matter if they lost customers (at least for not for now) but it’s just a theory, a discord theory!

Gonna agree here too.
I only have a laptop, and don't have a phone.
Kinda annoying when I can't talk in 2 servers, just because I can't verify my account with a phone number.

Bruh I had my account for like 4 years and then I decided to join some emote servers a day or two ago, but I did it too quickly and got locked out of my account because Discord thinks I'm a bot. This is unfair, I don't own a damn phone to verify myself. I can't afford a phone. I need my account back, it legit has everything on it. Can somebody help?

Yeah, I'm in pretty my the same situation as everyone else. The fact that this has been an ongoing issue for several years now shows how little they care about actually addressing the issue at hand. I mean, can it really be that hard to add email verification? Pure laziness, plain and simple.

I got locked out 3 months ago and I told support to unlock but they didn't even respond smh.

Make a new account, attempt to use my actual number, get told that it was recently used by another account. Attempt to use anything that isn't that number, get told that VoIP/landline numbers aren't accepted. What's the point if I can't use any account at all? Shit program by a shit San Franciscan company. No good.

All I can say is damn, discord thinks emails are somehow gonna kill you like no. It just doesn't work like that, gimme my account back you ignorant company. Judging by others discord guys just gonna say deal with it. No making alt accounts either BECAUSE MY EMAIL IS ALREADY BEING USED BY ME, AND I DON'T HAVE A PHONE. Yea, after they replied and all they literally said it happened correctly and that I was somehow under some sort of risk... Hello, you're emailing me on my true email and I'm saying I'm real. Like, please... Get the point... I'm not fake... A phone number isn't going to help that much... Yet another update: apparently I can use my someone else's phone number as long as it isn't tied so a discord account... Good ending in my opinion.

been using discord for a while now and met good friends but now I'm being asked to verify my cellphone number when don't even have one. someone needs to fix this

This is a terrible policy; there are countless other ways to handle this (that require less lazy developers). A lot of people don't want to provide a cellphone number either. As a user of software that has chose to use this platform, I will be recommending a change based of platform based on this. Require a cellphone or landline can be considered a form of discrimination against those who cannot afford one. The fact that this thread spans for years shows a company who clearly doesn't listen to their user base. I guess they live up to their name.

I have used Discord for a while now, it is my only way of contact with my friends and some of my loved ones. I would ask my family for a phone number to help me verify, but if they found out I had Discord I would probably be skinned alive, it's not like I'm below the age limit I'm 15. I was able to get my friends attention on a game but soon after he left it gave me the same screen and I'm stuck again until someone gets on or the screen magically disappears. I even attempted to make a new account and as soon as it was created I was shown the phone verification. I understand where they come from with the phone verification thing, but having another option would be greatly appreciated. Not everybody has access to a phone. I hope Discord gets this fixed.

And a big chunk of fake phone numbers don’t work, either, so you’re out of work if Discord doesn’t allow fake phone numbers to be used.

If Discord is going to PAY ME for the cellphone number they will sell for cash to their advertisers and affiliates, I'll think about it. Use MY PERSONAL PHONE for your advertising in the guise of "security"? NO!!
I'll go back to Teamspeak3 or one of several other freeware choices that work just as well, only without some of the features I do really enjoy in Discord, like sharing images and videos.

Discord you need to fix this i got locked out of my account yesterday and your doing nothing to help I don't have a cellphone and non of the other phonenumbers i got from family and friends work. I did get one to work but I decided to remove it for privacy reasons then you put me back on verification. you knew that I entered a phone number and got in but i removed it for privacy reasons and you unverified me again. fix this i hate it my acc i had since 2016 is now gone because of you
