Read Receipts for Direct Messages
RespondidaThis would be a setting that is default off (for privacy reasons for people who hate read receipts). But when it is toggled on, it would show that you've read a message, and when it was read. This timestamp could be placed directly next to the timestamp for that message.
This also could be achieved by a two tier setting, the first tier being "Messages will be marked as read when viewed." and the second tier being "Read receipts will include the time read." This would be extremely useful for people who use Discord just to text as well.

Read receipts would be really cool! But I would have them on by default, and with the option to turn them off if you want. I wonder how hard it would be to implement such a thing ...

It should be quite simple. Discord can tell if you are active or idle, so when you are active and have a chat open, messages sent should be marked as read. If you don't already have the chat open, opening the chat should mark the message(s) as read. It's something many other texting apps offer, and it's honestly frustrating that Discord is yet to offer it.
