Move Gift Nitro chat button to profile panel

This is a fine feature, but you really could have been a lot more thoughtful about its implementation. It feels like an ad you're shoving under our eyes. :(

If you want the Nitro button, please consider implementing some basic checks to see if it makes sense to show it... For example, if both myself and the person I'm speaking to already have Nitro, we don't really need to see the button. Even if just the person I'm speaking to has it, we still don't need to see it because... they already have it.

Furthermore, please consider allowing us to hide the GIF button if you don't want to let us hide the Nitro one (we get it - you gotta eat).

I'm generally very grateful to discord for their layout and what they allow to be toggled on and off, so I'm hoping the same can be done for these icons. Adding two extra icons to the chat box leaves very, very little room to actually type a message unless it's nearly fullscreen? (Small screen tablet computer user, here.) I can't even imagine the level of frustration on mobile.

I understand the need to advertise but surely there's a better/less intrusive way to integrate these icons?

I would like to second this. This button is simple intrusive, and in no way improves the user experience. I don't think anyone will want to buy nitro for their friends badly enough to warrant having it in the main message bar whenever they want to post something (not to mention the fact that it is directly next to the GIF and Emoji buttons). This feels like more of a shady marketing tactic rather than something created out of care for the user.

If I want to renew my Nitro subscription or purchase it for someone else (because I genuinely enjoy the service and want to share it with others), I would rather simply go into my settings menu and do it there. On mobile the problem is even worse, since it is nearly impossible to have room to type more than three words.

Please make all of these new chat options toggleable, it would be greatly appreciated

    Sincerely,

    An anonymous internet user

On the day I got the gift button, I went to r/discordapp to gauge community reaction. A lot of people requested the ability to disable the button.

I also got a staff response. But, I think if we raise enough of a stink, they'll add a toggle or move the button someplace else.

@Gendalph that staff response is absurd lol. These "features" make my IM client look like it was taken straight out of 2003.

I think it's ridiculous that instead of taking constructive criticism that response is just deflecting any input given regarding this change. At this point if BetterDiscord or a 3rd party plug-in will remove them then I'll switch to that because my input box is extremely cramped in my vertical monitor.

Again I cannot stress enough how poorly this was implemented and how ridiculous that staff response is - but I imagine they know that because the account it was posted from has been deleted.

I didn't truly mind it at first because it was around the Holidays and it was a neat little addition in the spirit of giving. It's now the middle of January, however, and they added another button to the mix which makes me think they're not seeing the placement of the buttons as a problem. That tells me that they're going to keep it there, or worse, keep adding more of these buttons to the text bar and clutter everything. I'm not against the features these buttons provide, so please don't misinterpret my input as that and toss it aside. I'm simply against adding unnecessary elements to the UI. If you really want to keep gifting fresh in people's minds, introduce a /gift command or add an option to gift Nitro to someone when you right click their name. The solution is NOT an obstructive button next to the emoji button that most people commonly use, that when accidentally clicked opens a popup that you need to manually click out of.

I'd like to remind Discord that I'm not using their service out of some misguided sense of comradery or loyalty, but rather because it's currently the most clean and easy to use chat service on the market. Should that stop being the case, I'm sure the average user won't hesitate to jump ship like was the case with Skype and other voip programs during Discord's rise to popularity.

Let us turn these extra buttons off.

I was literally just about to post a topic about these annoying buttons. They ABSOLUTELY need a way to be a hidden/removed from the text input line. They are obnoxiously in the way while typing and just add to visual clutter in the UI.

As someone who likes an extremely clean interface, and rarely uses emoji in the first place. I have always wanted to find a way to remove the emoji button. However over the last few updates to the PTB I have noticed now there are literally THREE buttons in the text input line. I honestly don't want ANY of them there because it makes the interface look even more cluttered. I have looked in the options menu and there is no way to hide any of these buttons. Please add a way to select which buttons appear on the text entry line so these can be hidden.

Btw, I don't really agree with the title of this post anymore - I don't want it to be specifically put in the profile panel, but just out of the chat bar.

No demands from me (or from the comments most other people) for a specific place it should go to.

Instead of putting this "Gift Nitro" button somewhere sensible, like the profile page of someone you might want to gift Nitro to, you went and put it literally right next to the most commonly used button ever (Emoji button, and now GIF button) in a way that not only causes accidental clicks, but also cuts off literally half the available input space on mobile devices.
And then to make a terrible situation truly distasteful, you proceed to sit around on Reddit and lie about how "People begged us to add it" and brag about how "It was a monetization success".

Awful. Just awful. This is exactly the kind of "Money first, user not at all" thinking that made Skype a failure.

Whoever was responsible for this deserves a swift kick in the butt. Out the door. With the contents of their desk.

I never wanted to buy a Nitro account and that makes me even less inclined to buy one. Give us the option to remove this already.

    And this Staff response...

"Both the gif button and the nito gift option were highly upvoted features on our feedback website and people have been asking for them for years"

Maybe people asked for the GIF button but who the hell could have asked for an ad button, seriously.

If you're going to add stuff to a textbar, then make sure that users have the ability to REMOVE stuff from the textbar that they don't use. Not having a setting for it is pretty obnoxious.

This is an unacceptable location in the UI to place a persistent, non-dismissable advertisement.

chiming in here to add that i also want these buttons removed from my chat bar. put the nitro gift thingy in the dang settings screen or something, or better yet on the "friends" overview page?? also i have. no fragging money lol. i'm not going to gift anybody nitro if i can't afford it for my own damn self. and just wholesale LET ME GET RID OF THE GIF BUTTON, if i'm going to use gifs it's going to be gifs i upload directly from my computer.

Listen, as someone who pays for nitro, this is an issue.

For starters, what is one of the key benefits of nitro? Gif emotes.

Well now everyone has them free, which is unfair to us, and to people who didnt want them anyways its frustrating to take up space.

So lets compromise, have it on screen by default, but have an option to hide them like a muted channel on right click.

As for the gift button.... honestly thats pretty insulting. Like seriously, in dms? Fine. In the nitro tab? Fine. Its actually useful in those two places. But not in any other place, because someone will just snipe the gift code anyways

Yeah this is easily the most baffling and annoying thing about discord so far. Don't punish the people supporting your product by giving them a button in their already limited text box which they can't get rid of, it reeks of petty greed.

Also fine if people want to copy/paste terrible reaction GIFs like it's funny, just let me disable that little nuisance of a button on my server (the general emoji button is fine, I guess, but an option to remove it would be welcome as well.) I think I'm going to end my nitro next month if this anti-consumer lunacy continues.

it's clear, it's useless for me, and ugly looking
let us hide it please ?

This triggers me so bad , it's all most a deal breaker in my opinion. Should be able to remove them in the settings.

Having the buttons is more than irritating, not to mention its a waste of perfectly good screen space. Now if the Gif one was put under emoji's it be a better idea, and the gift one should be disabled in an option, or atleast have it show up in DM's.

Don't just give an option to remove the button, remove everything about it.

I don't even want the clunky, bloated, memory eating, discord-crashing GIF menu available on our CHAT channel at all.  Nobody asked for it, but its getting forced on us because some of the content will undoubtedly serve as advertising reminders for Discord.  Want more lootbo- err, I mean PREMIUM GIFS?  Subscribe to Nitro!  Click here to pay now!  Its so easy; the button is right there in front of you all the time now!

Yes, change it. I get that it's really tempting to push your Nitro in people's faces but just be a little more subtle about it.

It's interesting how my feedback requesting an option to disable the GIF button (posted before the gift button even existed) was ruled to be the same as this feedback, even though this feedback doesn't actually say anything about the GIF button at all.  I'm hoping that if they do come to their senses and move or give an option to disable the gift button, they also give an option to disable the GIF button too, since that's the original thing that made me severely annoyed...

Agreed Jerl, both are annoying AF to me.

Yeah, still here this month, so good-bye Nitro, welcome spite. Hope fleeting gains bite you in the ass.

And I thought Skype was obtuse and hard to use. Guess I jumped on to the bandwagon way too early for discord. Didn't realize how quickly they'd start seeing green and ignore basic utility rights. Because I love having a third of my text box on desktop removed because of three buttons I either never-rarely use. For shame, can't wait to see this program go down the same path Skype did years ago. You lost my faith and quite possibly many others.

Had there ever been a chance of me gifting Nitro in the past, there wouldn't be now. Hopefully this at least serves as a reminder for people that discord is first and foremost looking to make money, same as other social media enterprises like facebook and twitter. While that's not necessarily wrong, we should be mindful about how we use it and how much we use it. Discord, please show your users more respect.

I definitely suggest moving it to the gift inventory or just getting rid of it entirely since you can already gift nitro from your user settings.
