discord beeps without showing where the new activity is
Discord is starting to drive me crazy with all it's unclear beeps.
First off, I have desktop notifications turned off, because there is no way to force them to the second monitor, and I don't want them popping up on top of my primary monitor gaming sessions.
With notifications turned off, it's virtually impossible to tell where the beeps are coming from. My discord had been beeping all this morning without adding any red-numbers to any servers, and I finally got fed up with it and muted all servers.. which is not what I want to do, but I don't have any choice.
So now I have discord with desktop notifications off, and all servers muted.... because the notification system in discord is so broken.
Please
1) Make some notification-history UI page inside the discord app, which will show a history of everything that caused a beep or ding on any server for any reason.. so when it beeps or dings I can go and look in one place and see what the hell caused it, even if it's been a while.
2) Allow me to set desktop notifications to show in ANY corner of ANY monitor, and dismiss after a configurable delay, including NEVER.

Why have the devs not responded? It's so annoying when you hear a notification but don't see where the notification is.

Newbie to discord. Spend many hours on only mentions. Those are gone but phantoms remain. Super happy to know I'm not the only one.

I couldn't find or get rid of the beeps no matter what i did, so i uninstalled discord and just open it in the browser now. Hey, better fix this issue or no one will use this app.

For me the problem is on the web app, not the app (I didn't install it).

I can confirm that the web app does it as well.

When will be solved? Discord beeps but no info, where is new message.

Still happening. Drives me crazy. I use the website; not sure if there's a desktop app. It doesn't happen on my phone app (apple).

I've found a workaround : install BetterDiscord and the InAppNotifications plugin. Then you will have a toater notification in the Discord window for each sound notification and find easily from which server the sound notification comes.

It's been 4 years, how the heck has Discord not fixed this yet? I'm sick of getting constant beeps but not knowing which of the 40 servers I'm on the beep originated from. Discord keeps adding the dumbest new features, wasting their development time on silly things that don't matter. Here's a novel idea, listen to your users (especially the ones that pay $100 a year), and fix the bugs they are complaining about first before you go off and add crap no one wants or asked for. Not that posting here matters, it's pretty clear no one from Discord cares or bothers to read this. 4 years? What a sad sad joke.

so discord just beeped me for this thread because of a 3 year old post.
They really know how to do this.

I wrote a blog post on how to mitigate this -

@Vallamost Nope, you didn't fix anything. And if you wanted to fix it then you would:
1. Read the thread, not just the first post.
2. Post the fix here instead of desperately fishing for blog traffic.1 -

1) I have been aware of this thread for years.2) I posted the fix in these comments MANY pages ago. You can look in my profile for that post or see it here - https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360042449511/comments/4407045480471
It clearly can't be found very well so maybe search engines can help.
Your frustration should be pointed toward Discord dev's not prioritizing this, not me. I'm just trying to spread awareness.

Vallamost
1. Me too. That doesn't change your post though.
2. I'm aware of your previous post, I replied to it. Your fix didn't work then, it still doesn't work now and you were more concerned with being snide than you were addressing the issue I brought up with it. As I said previously, if your suggestion works for someone, but not others, then it's not a fix for the problem at hand, it is s a fix for something else. But you don't like that, so in the past you have suggested than I learn English to which I offer you the bird.
3. This may come as a shock to you, but I can point frustration to both Discord and you. You're not “spreading awareness”, this thread is doing that already. You're spreading blog spam. It's been fun, let's do it again in a couple of years.

Whip Okay, have you replicated the issue you are having? Have you proposed a possible fix for it? Until that is done, the Discord Devs are left in the dark. My proposed solution for the Discord Devs is that Discord should adjust the default setting for new servers to not notify on All Messages, only on mentions. Additionally, any time a beep occurs, it should reference an event that triggered it. That could be done in a new area labeled as ‘All Recent Notifications’.
You haven't described to the best of my knowledge why my solution doesn't work for you.

Fully agree with WHip, someone's just fishing for traffic

5 years and no fix? Discord, do you hate your users? I PAY you for this product. Maybe it's time we all stop giving you money if you plan on continuing to ignore us.
How hard is it to have a list of recent notifications so we can find out WHERE they are coming from so we can decide if we want to mute a server? Please keep in mind many of us are members of 20-40 servers.
This support community is useless if posts can go 5+ years without action. Shame on you Discord!

I've had a discord account for a while. Apparently to access this forum, you need a different entire account? Anyways, I just signed up for a forum account, just so I could reply here.
I had to go to ChatGPT AI chat bot to help me figure out where in the hell the sounds for notifications are coming from in discord. Long story short, there is no map whatsoever to locate recent notification sounds or notifications.
I think it's pretty funny that this has been open ticket and essentially unaddressed for 5 years. The most recent comment was 3 days ago. And who knows how many hundreds or thousands of people have come here and just didn't want to bother signing up for an additional sequential account to access these forums. Why aren't these forms synced to your discord account in the first place?
Anyways, here's what I'd like to suggest.
- A notification icon badge that can be clicked and shows all notifications from all sources in chronological order.
- An activity history that shows all joined or in some cases (my case five minutes ago about servers accidentally disconnected or deleted or left so that you can re-join them if need be).
- All activity with timestamps for the type of activity that's happened within discord.

Those notification features we've been hoping for. You know, the ones like a Notification History Page or default notification settings for new servers. Well, here's the tough truth: they might never become a reality. Why? Because Discord's goals might not align with what we, the users, are asking for.
Consider the idea of a Notification History Page. Sounds amazing, right? Being able to easily track down the source of those mysterious beeps and dings. But think about it from Discord's point of view. They want us spending more time on the platform, engaging with content, and chatting with friends. A Notification History Page could potentially cut down on that time. Why would they want to make it simpler for us to find what we're looking for when they could keep us scrolling and clicking for longer, potentially increasing their ad revenue or encouraging us to upgrade to Nitro?
Let's not forget about the default notification settings for new servers. Discord's current setup likely encourages us to hear notifications on all new channels and posts, keeping us engaged and spending more time on the platform. Altering this default setting might result in less traffic on Discord, which is contrary to their business goals.
At the end of the day, Discord is a business, and businesses want to make money. They might say they value our feedback, but when it comes down to it, their priorities are about maximizing engagement and traffic. So while we can keep hoping for those perfect notification features, it's probably best not to get our hopes up. After all, Discord's bottom line is what's guiding their decisions, not our convenience.

*Stares in Cory Doctorow* or *Platform Decay Intensifes*
The low signal-to-noise ratio here causes me to avoid Discord as much as possible.
I only log into Discord during an event and *only through the website* and then log off.
No app for me, no notifications, and no engagement when logged off.

I can't believe this has been reported 5 years ago and no resolution or answer until now.
Does this mean the Discord app is a dead software, run by “forward thinking” mid managers and 1 or 2 exausted developers who can't address crucial issues, because they need to deliver the nonsense new features?

I made an account just for this. 5 years?? It's been 5 YEARS since this was reported and has since been constantly reported. FIX THIS ISSUE. What is this website even for if not to solve dumb stuff like this? What trash customer support. Not even customer support, this is straight customer neglect.
