Selectively change Notification settings for individual channels

Please allow us to selectively turn off Notifications for individual channels. I was surprised to find this isn't currently possible (tweet reply from support confirmed it https://twitter.com/discordapp/status/1108860067980500992 )

Even if I mute an individual channel, I still get a notification when someone "@everyone" posts in that channel. But I don't wish to mute @everyone posts in that whole server, because I am interested in most of those channels.. just want to turn off the notifications for some. Surely it makes sense that by default, muting a channel means we are not interested in that channel and therefore don't want to be pinged at all for it?

This would be especially useful in large servers that split off channels for different topics. I don't mind getting an @everyone in the announcements channel, but don't necessarily want it turned on in the meme channels.
