Go Live Feedback
I've started using Go Live. Great feature!
First, it would be lovely if a notification was automatically sent to server members saying something like "[user] is now streaming with Go Live!" because otherwise people have to manually do an @everyone or @here... But if you're already busy launching a game and getting in a voice channel and so on, having Discord take care of an announcement for you would be a nice little convenience. To keep it from being obnoxious, users should have the option in their server notification settings to turn it off if they don't want to see it.
My feedback mainly centers around Discord's ability to properly detect when the stream source has focus. The other night I was streaming Clip Studio Paint (which yes, I realize is obviously not a game) to demonstrate some art tips to another user in my server. Unfortunately, any time I accessed a menu (e.g., "File", "Edit", etc), or a tool with a pop-up/floating option panel (like the brush options palette), or a drop-down list, Discord acted as if I had alt-tabbed to a totally different piece of software and paused the stream.
By changing the tool panels from "pop-up" to "tab" (which is basically docking the panels within the program), Discord then registered the panels as having the same focus as the canvas, but the menus (e.g., "File", "Edit", etc) and any drop-down list accessed from within the tool panels still made Discord think I had alt-tabbed out.
When I opened a second image within Clip Studio Paint to demonstrate another thing, and pulled that image out of the tabbed list of open files so both canvases would be visible at the same time, Discord didn't capture the second image even if I went into its window to paint on it. (Pulling an open file out of the tabbed list makes it into a floating window within the program.) If I put the second image back as a tab and just swapped between the two tabs, Discord captured it just fine.
Additionally, my viewer was only able to see my mouse pointer when it was floating over the active paintable canvas. As soon as I moved off the canvas to select a tool, a different layer, etc, the mouse pointer vanished.
Again, I acknowledge that Clip Studio Paint isn't a game so not what you guys had in mind for streamable content, but I do wonder if this behavior might be something users could run into in actual games that do have menus and such, depending on how the game is programmed. Plus, well, lots of people are going to stream lots of things that Discord can detect that aren't actually games. Accessing a menu or a floating panel that an executable has generated shouldn't make Discord think that executable is no longer in focus.
If Discord isn't able to detect floating windows and such, it might be a useful alternative to simply be able to select, say, "Display 2" as the stream source.
Thanks for adding Go Live to Discord! I look forward to seeing future improvements. :)

Hi Cheyenne! How were you able to stream Clip studio? When I try to stream Clip or Photoshop, a yellow balloon appears on the right upper corner of the stream saying it couldn't stream the sound of the game, but none of them have sound so I don't know how to fix this.

I added the program to Discord just like an undetected game and then just activated Go Live. There were no alerts.
I was connected to my voice channel with my headset at the time so I could talk to my viewer. Are you doing that too?

Your feedback regarding the Go Live feature in Discord is insightful and could indeed improve the user experience for many. Here's a breakdown of your suggestions and observations:
Automated Notifications: Automatically sending notifications to server members when someone starts streaming with Go Live could be a convenient feature, especially for users who are busy setting up their stream and might forget to manually notify others. Providing an option for users to toggle these notifications on or off in their server notification settings would help prevent them from becoming intrusive.
Stream Source Detection: Discord's ability to properly detect when the stream source has focus is crucial for a seamless streaming experience. Your experience with Clip Studio Paint highlights an issue where Discord mistakenly pauses the stream when certain menus or panels are accessed within the application. Improving Discord's ability to accurately detect the focus of the stream source, especially in applications with floating panels or multiple windows, would enhance the overall streaming experience.
Mouse Pointer Visibility: Another issue you encountered was the disappearance of the mouse pointer when it moved off the active paintable canvas within Clip Studio Paint.
Ensuring that the mouse pointer remains visible to viewers, regardless of its position within the streaming window, would improve the clarity of the stream.
Alternative Stream Source Selection: Providing users with the option to select specific windows or displays as the stream source, rather than relying solely on Discord's automatic detection, could offer more flexibility and compatibility with a wider range of applications and content.
Overall, your feedback provides valuable insights into potential areas for improvement in Discord's Go Live feature. Implementing these suggestions could enhance the streaming experience for users across various applications and use cases. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I hope Discord considers these ideas for future updates.
