I know we're all complaining about the update I just wanted to be part of something

Yeah Discord hate to break it to you but this update is hot garbage. The highlighting is annoying, the emoji selector is annoying and unhelpful (never in my life have I wanted to be able to react to a message with 🔞 or ™ in only one click, or even reacted to a message with those emojis at all), all the messages are now closer to eachother for, as far as I can tell, no actual reason, the yellow bar thingy indicating you've been pinged is now encircling the entire message group for, again, no reason (it's getting a little too friendly with the sidebar and I do not like it), and the new message indicator is now different because clearly good design is constantly changing tiny details in ways that makes them neither better nor worse just to keep your users on their toes. 

Everything was fine before. Put it back. Stop changing things for the purpose of changing things!
