Hide self view in video call

So for example when I'm in a video call and I have the video feed on pop-up mode, I'd like to be able to see the person's feed without seeing my own camera feed in the corner.

  • I want to hide my camera feed from myself without disabling my camera

So far, I've found no way to actually hide my own camera feed in a video call besides showing members and then dragging the window past the edge of the screen, but that's a bit hacky and also kind of an edge fix. I'd like to be able to move the window around.

    Despite the fact that it's been asked for, for a year or more, I'm going to ask that this be implemented as soon as possible because this would make the video calls on discord a million times better and I could actually make use of the pop-out and stay-on-top feature to see who I'm talking to and work at the same time, without my own video blocking their entire face

    I found this thread for the same reason as everyone here, and it's been asked  repeatedly for more than 2 years now, it seems the devs doesn't really care about users opinion

    It's insane that this is still not a feature, it's so annoying
    When i study with 3 people i see myself as a huuge window, why? Can't stand it. Pls implement this, it's worth it

    First update it, so if you're on desktop kill the application and then re-open. And i don't mean just close the window. Task bar > quit for windows, for mac I'm not sure you might be able to right click the app in dock and say quit. Restart if you're not sure. On mobile, go to app store and update.

    Then when in a video call, right click your video feed and you can say "hide self".

    What exactly is the point of "hiding" your camera only to have your profile pic take space instead...?

    I agree with AburiSoba. What is the point in taking precious video conference screen real estate with a block of my own image or profile pic when I am disabled? Any of me should be excluded entirely, with maybe a small icon to re-enable.

    Once you've hidden yourself, you can check the box that says "hide non-video participants" and it'll hide you from the view.

    This will hide yourself, but the other person's cam becomes smaller and it's way too small in pop-out mode.

    So we TECHNICALLY have this feature now so... yay?

    The problem is that it behaves in a way that no other VC service's "hide self" function does in that any other VC platform will also allow you to minimize or make smaller your own rectangle in the gallery of people in the VC call. This new function makes it so you can hide your Self View and your video goes blank on your screen but your VC square stays the same size and there isn't a way to make it smaller. Feels very half-baked but it is technically what we asked for.

    Do we maybe need to do another Feature Request for this now to ask that we're able to hide or shrink/resize our own VC window?

    There is a lot of ungratefulness going on. The key part of hiding your own image is to avoid the continual distraction of seeing yourself. Not having that live image is the key benefit and the devs found a way of doing that. The next step of hiding the whole of your avatar window is clearly now a separate piece of work. Please devs, make smaller the space occupied by channel participants not sharing their video.

    2 years since this post and they still didn't get it.

    Discord, what we want is to be able to hide completely the square with our profile/cam on it.

    We don't just want to hide our face. We want more space to see the other person.

    Can you pls hide our profile picture? I hided my camera in just my perspective but profile picture is still overlapping and blocking the view. Pls fix it and give us the option to resize our own video in general.

    If it bothers you so much, just type it into the console(CTRL+SHIFT+I => Console):

    How has it been 4 years since this thread has been oploaded and still no fix??

    seems like it wouldnt be hard to implement into it, since discord has used more time and effort into coding the little preveiw in.
    why not just leave it out so your screen isnt covered with a big dumb profile picture???
