Constructive Criticism and Issues with the Latest Update
To start off, I by no means, know how development of discord works, and am just a user who would love to see the platform become the best service it can be.
Now I have no intention of sugar coating this: This newest update was, in my opinion, a complete disaster. I believe that by no means this update should have been pushed out in the state it is in, the amount of issues my friends and I have had with this update is far more than I think there need to be.
Issue #1. Myself. When I go to use "Go Live" it doesn't work at all. My friends don't ever see it and when I end the stream, calling completely breaks in my app and I have to restart it to fix it.
Issue#2. The Audio. I already saw the post on how your team is looking into what happened and is actively trying to fix it, which I think is great, but furthers the point that this feature wasn't meant to be pushed out as is.
Issue#3. Mobile. This problem is slightly less bad but is still an issue. If a person ends their stream on mobile and restarts the stream, you have to leave the call and rejoin to be able to watch it. I also noticed that if you have a slower connection it now barely works as all as opposed to Screen Share which did work.
The Real Problem Last time a controversial update came out the same response happened, people were angry, and were raging on the forums to revert it. I believe the same issue and potential future issues could be fixed if discord tried to give it's users one more thing with new features
Choice
The entire issue with this new update could have been avoided if users were given an option between "Go Live" and Screen Share in dm's. The fact that users are now forced to use a subjectively/maybe objectively worse version of a feature you had worked so hard to perfect. I don't understand the reasoning behind completely removing a feature you had worked on for so long that worked far better than this newer feature, that of which a lot of your reasonings for changing it were able to be fixed using the "disable video" feature. The issue of people being forced to watch it could also be fixed by the person simply asking the person streaming to use "Go Live" instead of Screen Share but still being able to use both.
Closing: As a user who has been using this platform for years I love this platform, and again, wish it to become the best place it can be, but I believe the recent development philosophy of "instead of admitting we made the wrong decision, let's just improve on this feature instead of going back to what it used to be" isn't the right one, and that Discord should be more open to FULLY reverting changes that weren't the right ones. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my opinion, if any of these suggestions were absurd, please let me know, and have a good rest of your day.
Sincerely, a user who loves your platform.
