Feature Request - Comprehensive Opt-In Pronouns

Summary: Users need a way to set pronouns as part of their user profile. The pronouns should be allowed to be set on a per-server basis. Displaying the pronouns should be controlled by users and servers as an opt-in system for displaying pronouns in user profiles or as a small badge next to the user’s name.

Discord’s popularity has led to the creation of amazing online spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals to find community and camaraderie with others. Currently these spaces often rely on 3rd party bots and roles to allow their community to set pronouns. These tools are often not well known or widespread, often leading to different servers adopting different tools. These tools can differ in functionality and effectiveness creating a burden on Discord users to learn both how to use these tools and locate the information they provide. This functionality should be part of the core Discord application, allowing users to have a standard way to interact with this information. In addition to addressing accessibility concerns, correctly identifying individuals is not only kind, but also can reduce risk of individual harm for an already at-risk group.

Users should be able to select an option from a list of pronouns as part of their profile. This should follow the new profile editing options that allows users to have different profiles for different servers. This is essential, as many individuals may not be ready to share their pronouns with specific groups (such as friends or family).

In addition to allowing users to set pronouns as part of their profile, users should also be given options on how to display those pronouns. There should be options to: hide pronouns, display pronouns as part of their profile, and an option to have their pronouns be displayed as part of a chat message as a badge next to their name.

For communities where safety of their users is a consideration there should be a way for server administrators to have a default display option. This allows servers to have slightly more control over how at-risk community members give identifying information about themselves.
