is this site named ironically..?

This is intended to be a site for bringing people together and encouraging community and communication, yes? Then why did the creators of this site name it something that literally means argument and disharmony??? Was it for the sake of irony? Or did they confuse discourse with "discord"? As discourse means communication, discussion, or debate, which is a FAR more appropriate name for what this site offers.
