Discord Overlay won't go away

The overlay that I can bring up with [Ctrl + `] is stuck on the screen. It will go translucent and I can't interact with it until I use the command, but it won't go fully away. Any idea of how to fix this?

  go to the overlay settings and turn off the "in game overlay"

  That doesn't help, it just disables the overlay. The problem is that for people wanting to use the overlay it gets stuck.
