Regarding The New Update
Navigation and Accessibility
The current update as of 3/25/2025 has made navigating servers whilst in a call incredibly difficult. I have my discord on a smaller screen near constantly for ease of use as well as allowing my main screen to not be impacted. The command panel at the bottom left of the screen should not be so enlarged unless and option to make it bigger for access is enabled. Because server channel text sizes have now been reduced and the former default color is now far too dark.
Overlay
The overlay is also an issue as it went from being tucked away in the corner to now in the smack middle of the left side of my screen and disables me from accessing controls in different games. If the aim was to optimize the placement, we as users should be allowed to choose where the overlay sits rather than be forced to choose between having it on or off now that it is further affecting gameplay. Another thing regarding this is the fact that the new update has forced overlay onto applications that did not have overlay enabled beforehand (ie. Google, Roblox, Opera) which is frustrating as discord remains stubborn on keeping an overlay on applications.
Visibility
With the change of the server icon shape, it has made it difficult to view server icons. The icons are smaller and the quality of some seem to have suffered in the transfer between shapes. The overall look of this specific update has also managed to make server folders look cluttered and crowded, making the overall view of the organization much more cluttered and unpleasant.
Aside from the servers on the left hand side of the screen, the bar across the top announcing your current location in the app is not only unnecessary, but also serves to make the overall application look squished and even allows less space for servers, direct messages, members, and activity to be visible.
What I recommend
Take a survey from your users every few months and ask them what they wish to see from Discord. Making unwanted changes and such drastic visual changes are not only a bad move in the sense of marketing and keeping users, but it also causes a lot of distress for a lot of users. To make sure that users aren't leaving your platform or are unhappy using it, you should use the survey results to determine changes made.
Another option that does not include having to sort through many results from surveys, is to allow users to use more legacy options and revert back to former layouts if not just allowing some level of customization of layouts that aren't locked behind a paywall that most people may not be able to afford at the moment.
Thank you for considering my feedback and criticism
