I didn't see this anywhere but I am part of several RP pages on Discord and it would be nice to be able to have a custom avatar per server. You can change your name on a server but not your avatar. People tend to recognize people by their character, and being able to show each character on each server would be nice.

    Is this feature really over a year old? Jeez. Come on Discord, loads of people wanting this and unlike some other feature requests, this one is useful from a user's perspective.

    Not to self-promote, but i made a bot that does this for you in the meantime of waiting eons for this feature.

    Just make sure its in every server you want a new profile pic.
    problem solved.

    For simplicity, the simple commands are
    ":>set_vanity [url]" (instead of url, you can attach a file from your device.)
    ":>remove_vanity"

    ":>help" will show the entire help message.

    Im no code head so for people out there like me this is how it works.

    1: Add the bot to your server

    2: type the following 

    :>set

    with a space and the URL of an image. Make sure you right click the image and open it in another tab to pull its true url location (the google share url does not work)

    Example

    >set https://i.quotev.com/img/q/u/14/8/28/Henr.jpg

    3: Done!

    4: Send another set command with url to change your image.

    See screenshot attached!

    Its working well so far!

    If this can be made into a BOT, then Discord can obviously can code this in as a feature......

    Only server moderators can add bots to a server, right? So we would need to ask all of them to do it?

    FiretronP75, users with the "Manage Server" permission can add bots. But as a roleplay bot, I see no reason your moderators would reject it.

    I notice that the member's role color is lost when the bot re-posts. It's a small price to pay, but it doesn't cost anything to ask a question. Is there a way to retain  the role color?

    I imagine the bot would have to change its own role, so I don't see a way for it to work. But maybe folks here know more than me. :-)

    [10F] Prime Lorca, unfortunately I cannot change the bot's message name color. The bot uses webhooks to send these messages, which cannot be colored in any way. Sorry, that's how the bot has to work.
    Any future questions about the bot should be sent to me as a DM, or join the support server. The invite link and other information is in the ":>help details" command.

    Due to Covid-19, I'm seeing a need to use Discord in a variety of ways, both game, personal, and work related, with separate server configurations. However, from a presentation standpoint, I should not be using the same avatar for all servers, especially work-related.

    I will 100% pay for this feature. I'm already considering paying monthly, because i really love Discord and i use it every day, and generally i invest in services that i want to continue.

    The unique avatar per server makes sense from a gaming standpoint especially, but it's also a privacy and safety issue for me--which is the real reason i'm not entirely certain i want to pay for the service, because i don't feel like my privacy is being prioritized. It stunts my use of the platform because if i can't have a photo of myself in a private server where i trust everyone and a less identifiable avatar in a public server, i avoid joining servers that i really want to. 

    And with the virus locking everyone at home and many people using Discord now for meetings, it makes even more sense that we not be forced to use the same avatar everywhere.

    i NEED this feature for roleplaying, i don't want all my patners to see my real face as they talk to my character and i don't want to create multiple accounts just because an avatar

    I think it would be best (in order to get traction with the devs) to have one 'post' for this so that it has the most up arrows & follows...  I would ask if you see a new post similar to this one, then put a permalink to this comment (item):

    With regards to "Server Specific Avatars"
    ○ this also has a use-case for ppl who use discord for various endeavors: work, volunteering, & play
    ○ I'd love to take this a step further for the RPG'ers out there & have even per 'channel' specific avatars, in the same server ... the same logic holds, if I'm a DM with multiple campaigns why have multiple servers & not multiple channels (that way all the common stuff can be in one channel & all the campaign specific stuff can be in it's channel.

    With regards to related items:

    ○ Server Specific Bios
    • I'd love to take this a step further for the RPG'ers out there & have even per 'channel' specific bios, in the same server, this would let you in an easy to find fashion link to details about a character within a channel
    • Again this has use cases in the business, volunteering worlds as well; where you have different contact info based on the server and/or a different role based on the team (per channel is important)

    ○ Server Specific Visibility
    • this has it's own (separate) post you (again, thank's @Nelly) : https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360029554971/comments/360009907391
    • if you use discord for work, volunteering, & social aspects; this is as important as the two items above

    I'd like to ask for everyone's help in up arrow'ing:

    ○ this post (let's help @Nelly cross the finish line <after a year 😲>, though the dev team has been understandably busy with scaling, performance, & Rust conversion)!
    ○ this comment so that we can get everyone on the same page (& hopefully get the dev's to work on this item.)
