So apparently, Discord support says its not happening:

That's not Discord saying its not happening. That's a support guy responding to a question he can't personally answer and (wisely) not making any promises. If people keep voting this up then it will stay on their radar.

Jon the VGNerd that's a canned response. I got one 2 years ago (or more) that's almost word for word. Sooooo.... yeah, you might be right anyway: a polite way of saying nope, nada, not in your lifetime, go pissup a rope, etc. Discord devs seem to be fairly demonstrative of this.

Uhhhhh. K. 4,639 upvotes. How many more ya'll need? I'm sure we can get that to 5k with little trouble.
And not that Discord is obligated to do this, but if we can't have this feature, if there's a specific reason, can we at least know why? Even if it's a bunch of gobbly-gook 90% of us won't understand. Probably be a lot less frustration and disappointment if that is the case.

I'm going to do that, and I think others should, too. If we can get a big push (like 500+ votes in the span of a week for instance), maybe it will get the attention from someone who can help push this feature to be implemented. I genuinely think there's just a lot of different things people want and they need to prioritize what is needed vs wanted and balance how much that thing is wanted.
If nothing else 5k is a reachable milestone that could help a ton.

Good grief.. REALLY?! 2020 and STILL not added to discord?! This is such a shame and -THE- one thing that is missing from Discord, and it's been something that's been wanted for TWO years, and still not added! What a shame. So much for being able to be anonymous... Makes one wonder the priorities for them...
And just saying "NO" in a workaround way is -not- an acceptable reply. If it's not an option and why they are not adding it, WHY is the reason?! It makes NO sense to not have it in place. At all. Been on social medias for 25 years, and this is about the stupidest thing I've come across when it comes to features missing from such a big and popular social media platform.

This genuinely would be great as a feature, as I have a problem with switching my pfp depending on what communities i'm involved in, and I would really like it if I could just have a different pfp per community i'm in.
So discord, please implement this.

sarahbellum Apparently not. It's a clear case of not gonna happen because the guys at Discord doesn't want to implement such a feature. Unless we continue to tell them to have this feature added, it's likely going to fall on deaf ears.

OK but how do we bring it to their attention without whacking them in the face with it? I seriously want this to be a thing as quite a few of the servers I'm in are seeing the picture of Train instead of the character that I'm playing on that server and it's an annoyance. Is there a place we can spread this that will gain more attention from discord users and devs?

As virtual classes are now a thing on Discord, this is more in need than ever. Serious servers requires serious avatars and nicknames. But we would love to still be able to keep our personal avatar on others informal servers, I mean, it wouldn't be so nice to join a Discord class with an anime character avatar, would it?
If we already can have custom nicknames and emojis on every server I can't see why this wouldn't be possible

I'm sad this thread is over 2 years old and still not picked up. We already have nickname changes, seems the avatar change shouldn't be much more work.
