Move Messages
It would be really useful for moderators to be able to move messages between text channels in a guild.
This could involve a new permission: 'MOVE_MESSAGES'.
Some concerns about this idea have been raised, but do not seem to be fatal. These are touched upon as follows.
Could this be abused?
It could only be abused to the same extent as existing powers such as kicks, bans, and message deletions. Guilds could have the ability to control who wields the power, preferably through a dedicated MOVE_MESSAGES permission. They could also monitor its use through the Audit Log. If the power were to be abused under these conditions, the issue would seem to lie with the powerholders in the guild in question, rather than the power itself.
Could members be confused?
If a message is moved without any indication, this could be confusing, as members may not realise that their message has been moved. This could be helped by having an automated system message which takes the place of the moved message to explain that the message has been moved.

It's sad that this is the second highest feedback, but no answer from the dev team on it :(

@Driftage
Dont know where you get your data from, but in the category "Text Chat" it's on position 26?! Sorted by "votes".
And thats only one category.

@Shinigami
*Sigh* "Votes" are a pointless and empty farce.
Sort by the Comments instead to get a better indication of people's frustration and desire for a feature.
(Thought exercise: Which features should developers focus on more? The ones that happened to be on the front page where bored passersby take a peek and toss up-votes like pennies to beggars squatting on main street? Or the features buried deep that are still being specifically sought for by users and managing to garner more attentive discussion than anything featured on the over-bloated front page?)

This feature would be so helpful in cases of sudden needs for a new channel as well!

You can start rolling with this feature, Discord, don't let perfect be the enemy of the good. Let's assume nothing can be done about moving the same message id to a different channel. It's fine, just help the admins do what they can already do anyway: copy the message to another channel with something like "Message originally posted by X:" on top and just delete the original message. You don't even need to add anything new to the audit log, just count it as a delete action. Implement the basic feature as it's probably good enough for most people's needs.

Or, just make it so servers can only have 1 channel.
Then you don't need to worry about moving messages from one channel to another (as if you ever thought about it anyway).-1 -
@Darr247
If you only want one channel to chat in about anything from the type of poop a dog has to rocket science then you're in the wrong place
Here we like that we can have a chat channel for dogs and another for rocket science so we can talk to people on our level not talk to someone about Einstein's theory of relativity and have someone else in there talking about their dogs crap in the middle of our discussion.
-1 -
@Jesterjj You just completely proved @Darr247's (clearly satirical) point. We need this feature because of the mere fact that there are multiple channels. Start a long convo about dogs in the rocket science channel. I'll bet that would be annoying to you. It would be to me. But it's bound to happen. I mean, a heroic dog was shot into space, but that doesn't make them any less gross. But also they're not as disgusting as cats tracking their litter everywhere.
(Now if this starts a discussion here about space dogs and space cats, and a mod wants to move the messages, then what? LOL. Is my post gonna be deleted?)

Why This Message Belongs In Another Channel and What You Can Do About It
Q: What if a dog seems to fart especially often? A: Excessive flatulence is usually linked to your dog's diet. It isn't necessarily caused by a problem with the quality of the ingredients he's eating (although eating low-quality or rotten food could make it worse), but is most likely due to a food intolerance.
If this message belongs in another channel, please ask an Admin to move it to the "Dogs Creating Space" Channel.
Cats need not apply.

This would be super helpful for maintaining server order and keeping content in their respective channels. Discord please add this!

how is this not a feature yet ?how many years people need to wait for this

> how is this not a feature yet ?how many years people need to wait for this
mod features are always pushed for later, the same thing happens in reddit1 -
We need this so bad. So often people start conversations in the wrong chats, and then move to the correct one, meaning the conversation is now split up and it's very confusing.
If we could just move a group of messages to the correct chat and continue the conversation there it would make everything so much more organized, and would make moderating so much better and easier, and make chat histories actually make sense, and require less manual conversation based moderating.

Discord is asking to upvote this rather than comment. https://twitter.com/discord/status/1225763447754850304?s=19

So, they only want opinions of server admins/mods that also have Twitter accounts???
They should just hold the vote on facebork instead.

What I think is they're just afraid to admit it can't be done due to how they initially constructed the databases.

Please add this. It's a real pain managing valuable messages posted in the wrong room. :(

Just bumping this and wondering if discord has given any updates or statements regarding this with new or actual information.

@Dzeno Discord on 7th February, 2020 asked to upvote this feedback/request saying it helps them.
https://twitter.com/discord/status/1225763447754850304?s=192 -
Yes @arpitthehero they asked to upvote here (this thread). Nonetheless seems like a bit of an empty Twitter comment as about 4 to 5 years ago this feature was already planned if I am believe the comments. The thread has at least been around for over 2 years now.
Really hoping that discord employees would respond here or post their timeline or something. Just some clarification,
They don't plan on implementing it ever
They don't plan on implementing it now
They plan on starting on it soon
They have already completed it partway
They are close to implementing itWhy and what is up to them but I, personally, would love some clarification.

I've promoted this link in my server, I highly suggest any server owners who want this do the same as the more votes the better. I also link it every time I wish I could move messages.

Would love to have this feature. I have a lot of "new" users during COVID-19 that have never used apps like discord to communicate. Having to copy paste and delete messages that are wrongly put in channels is a nightmare for me and the moderators.

Still need this feature.

+1

Still waiting on this feature as an admin! Asking people to move their posts is ineffective
2 -
When are we getting this feature? Is it in the midst of getting implemented or its just sitting in the feedback box?
2 -
Discord. Please make this happen. Upvoted the post (now close to 1300 upvotes).

I am very disappointed that such an essential feature hasn't been implemented yet. Especially considering the demand.
Inability to move messages makes your life as a server owner/administrator/moderator so much harder. It's not even hard to implement!
So many human hours are wasted among the globe on having to deal with off-topic messages and for what? So that the Discord team could practice the same customer relationship as Microsoft Teams? The ones that refuse to give you an option to disable your camera by default when joining a meeting?
If that's the direction Discord is taking, we might have to start looking elsewhere...4 -
GroupMe is an alternative... everything is all in one channel, but that's how discord thinks things should be run anyway.
