[FEATURE] Hiding Specific Roles
Recently, I was on my discord server and I was thinking that it would be a good idea to hide specific roles. For example. A default member not being able to see the current bots. The role "Bot" will be hidden for them and all of the user in it.
I have a lot of bots and I want to make my server look nicer, I feel this would be a good way to do that. Maybe you could also include certain permission to view roles.

This would defiantly be useful! I would be able to maybe hide the bots role so my server member list would look much cleaner. I would love this feature! Does discord even read these?

I love this idea. It would be good for those who own popular game servers. Daily we are banning people who come in and go through the member list to send them either spam or they are trying to advertise to get members.

it's awesome idea. it would be lovely to have option to hide role from specific users, rly useful. I wish discord devs do it, and I can't wait. sooner or later it will be probably a feature on discord.

I've made a Werewolf Discord Server for my friends at school. This feature would be especially useful for things like making people the werewolves and the rest of the village couldn't see what they were.

So make a channel that only you and her are allowed to see. You don’t have to use roles for that. Make permissions of the channel based on users not roles. Make sure mods and admins can’t bypass permissions.

Bump again. This NEEDS to become a thing. Definitly would love to have hidden roles that allow certain permissions but don't clog up the "profile page" of the user in the server. 11/10 idea.

I want to be able to hide my admin roles and bot roles from being visible to users as they hover over people. I want admins to be able to see hidden roles.
Another nice thing would be a permission for members of a hidden role to see other members with the same role. So, if I have a mods group, I want each mod to be able to realize they are looking at another mod. I don't want everyone else to see they are a mod though.1 -

This really needs to be a feature.
I manage a server for an organization's Pride group where the users use their real names for their server profiles with an age range from 18-80+. There's a section for Allies and a private section for the LGBTQ+ members. We have members who are not out but want to be aware of the conversations happening with the Allies but do not want people who are strictly Allies to know they are on the server.
Because of the age range and technical ability, we have to control settings to prevent people from using the wrong channel despite them being properly labeled like ally-general vs. pride-general to avoid things like an accidental outing of a member. We can account for some of this with roles to allow people to only see the ally channels and not post. However, since you can see the user list and their roles, someone going through the member list can see the role of “Pride Chapter Member” and a workaround of labeling roles Member 1 and Member 2 doesn't work because there are only two groups of members outside of the admins. Making more roles with the same permissions to throw around the numbers would be ridiculous and hard to manage if we ever have to make role role-based changes.

Bumping this like others have done over the past several years.
This would be a useful feature for:
* name color selection roles, so you don't have the actual role listed on a member's profile (since it's to change their display color only and not an actual “role,” so to speak)
* game selection roles, so people can add a role for each game they're interested in being pinged for, so the @role can be pinged, but the extensive list of game roles won't show on their member profile - this would also mean a toggle to hide/display roles as well as a toggle to be able to or not to ping the role would be separate
* I know it could be tracked in a mod chat, but mods could label users who have been problematic and see that quickly when looking at a member's profile or issuing a new warning or mute
* bots could be completely hidden from the member list instead of taking up space, if you have lots of bots
* if you're giving anyone secret staff permissions or access to certain areas, but you don't want that role displayed, and you don't want to manually change it for each member being given that permission/access
