  • +1 for NDI support.
I have tried window capture from Discord but to do that I have to disable hw rendering, which also seems to disable hw video compression causing my CPU to melt down.
Using Skype instead purely for NDI for now :(

NDI is rapidly becoming a standard within the broadcasting industry, and many other apps are already implementing NDI support. Please don't get left behind with this and offer your users this feature soon!

Even simply starting with NDI input for webcams would be incredibly well received.

    Please add this! Pretty please?

My life would be a million times better if Discord would hurry up and integrate NDI. This needs more upvotes! It's been 2 years!

Starting to think this just isn't happening...

  • Zaepho

@PyroTech03 Those of us who support this idea really need to direct other likeminded content creators here to upvote the idea and help show there is a real strong desire to support this functionality within the userbase. The more people following and voting the better!

@zaepho I agree. But so far no word on anything. I get the ping with every comment. I've directed people here, as much as I'm sure you have. If it's something they're planning, it'd be nice to see a comment at least

I would say that a great majority of streamers use discord and would use ndi in obs. This would also be good for 2 pc setups

It's been a while since I commented so I figured I'd just renew my interest in this feature. It would be a great feature to add.

Perhaps there's a reluctance to add this feature since you can now stream gameplay on Discord, and maybe there are more features in the works to compete head on with Twitch, but let's be honest... There will always be a significant user-base on Twitch that will never switch, but adding features that make it easier for streamers, regardless of their desired platform, will ensure that they keep using Discord for enhancing their streams and communities. Keeping more people engaged on Discord means more people are going to pay for Nitro. Do you want to build a wall between Discord and Twitch, or keep the platform flexible and open so the Twitch user-base sticks around? Heck, if you implement NDI and sold it as an add-on, I'd buy it at a reasonable price (keep in mind it's included FREE with Skype).

I don't think Discord's game streaming can ever compete with platforms like Twitch, and I don't think it is intended to. Discord streams have a hard limit on the number of viewers and are closed off to dedicated communities. Adding NDI would be an enhancement to both the Discord platform as well as the other online streaming platforms.

Finally seeing a lot of activity on this feature request so want to continue to bump it!  We've seen Microsoft announce NDI support in Teams, coming in August.  And this is LESS about "gaming" than it is about long-form produced content.  Bringing in guests for podcasts, shows, to be livestreamed is difficult today with high quality audio video.  Skype is about the only option.  Otherwise you're using Zoom with terribad compressed audio.

If you truly want to move your "image" away from gaming, this would be a MASSIVE first step.  Also, allowing us to send RTMP into a channel would make a MASSIVE difference as well to be able to send our feeds into our Discord communities.

    Here to support this implementation!

I love discords´s audio cuality, but it have to use Skype for my video streams.
You would literally rock with this.

Just adding my support for wanting to see Discord add NDI output.

The recently announced TriCaster 2 Elite by NewTek (creator of NDI technology) lists that they can pull in video sources from Discord directly to the TriCaster, along with Skype, GoToMeeting, Slack, Zoom, Facebook live, and Microsoft Teams through Live Call Connect. Currently I believe the TC1 can only pull in Skype. Hopefully that means there's something going on in the background there that users will be able to get access to.

JeremyNoell That is rather interesting indeed! I hope you're correct and that this means something may indeed be coming for us creators!

  • DarkElfLX

Sorry to say guys but according to the spec sheets the Tricaster Elite receives video calls from Discord and other systems, no sign of NDI integration.

DarkElfLX Hopes dashed!  Good catch. Back to our usual stumping for NDI Support baked into Discord!

NDI support is something I'd REALLY like to have. Discord is the top tier program for pretty much all things, including audio quality, but my podcast is forced to switch to Skype just to get the webcams aligned. Please build this feature into Discord so we can abandon the other audio programs forever!

NDI support is something urgently needed for Content Creators of any kind. This would make discord the non-plus-ultra for recording podcasts. As of now, screen cropping each attendant is not a reusable and graceful solution, specifically since the "order" in which you must call people has to be pre-defined. Right now, due to the issues at hand, we must use Skype since it supports NDI.

    Please consider this feature!

  • If you DO add it then please do it better than Skype, which outputs the same mixed audio of all participants to every NDI feed. If you're using multiple callers you can to mute all but one of them, and then that is the only person who is correctly in sync.
I'm switching back to Discord for this reason (now that I have discovered I can window capture without disabling hw accel)

At the very least the ability to sort the grid layout by name so we can have a consistent positioning for desktop capture.

As someone who is tired of Skype (along with the rest of you!), I'm surprised that Discord hasn't implemented this. Skype has very clear privacy options regarding NDI, Discord could literally steal their template for letting people back out and not be recorded.

As someone who plays multiplayer games almost exclusively on stream (D&D, Divinity, Gloomhaven), it makes no sense for us to have to use Skype when we use Discord for everything else non-streaming.

I also second the notion that I would pay Nitro for NDI. I'm sure that would rub a lot of people the wrong way, but if that's what it takes, so be it.

I'm certain there are some hefty considerations on the backend of the system before implementing NDI. That being said....do you not like making money, Discord?? You basically have a rent-a-server service here that would probably triple? quintuple? in revenue if you were able to bring more streamers to your platform. Speaking first-hand, it is great to bring people into a video call in Discord while allowing our community to chat with them on the same platform - like the "insider" crew - and then broadcast that video chat (via screen cuts..ARGGGH) out to Twitch.

If any devs are even reading this thread (with 252 upvotes!!), please chime in and let your paying community know where your dev train is headed.

@KC.Rift yelling at the devs with comments like “do you not like making money?” isn’t really constructive. Additionally per your ‘back end’ comment, it’s not a back end thing. NDI is a local technology, and depends on them integrating the ndi sdk and the associated licensing that goes along with that.

Supporting this thread, I have two shows I do that could dramatically increase in production value. Discord please kindly allow this, thank you!

If anyone needs an alternative to Skype NDI, while we wait for discord to implement it (if they ever do), then I would suggest "OBS Ninja". I tried it yesterday, in a stream with 3 people, and it worked really well!

  • Lem.on.Lime

I just want to accept an NDI as a video stream in Discord. That seems like it should already be implemented.

    0
  • ignatgrz

Lem.on.Lime I don't know your specific usecase, but you should be able to do that with NDI virtual camera.

    1
  • JustWeb

ignatgrz by having NDI built directly in you would have more source options to bring into Discord but also could use any video feed (webcams, desktop sharing, and app sharing) into other applications like Discord.

    3
  • EasyAsPai

Lem.on.Lime JustWeb You are already able to accept any NDI stream into Discord with existing features, this thread mainly focuses on the desire to export webcam streams from Discord into NDI (for example, so a podcast could be streamed live using multiple sources rather than a Window Capture).  You can use the NDI Virtual Camera, or even if you wanted to get fancy, the OBS Virtual Camera, or get any NDI video feed you have into Discord as a webcam.  The feature that is impossible right now is getting content out of Discord.  (This is what ignatgrz was referring to.)

    2
  • JustWeb

EasyAsPai Yes but with Virtual Camera you can only use one source at a time... The point I was trying to drive is with full NDI support I would be able to pull each video feed into a program like OBS simultaneously. This will allow me to create scenes and be able to modify each source individually. Also, virtual cam will add some additional latency.

Bump. Since streamers and gamers are already taking Discord as go to communication channel we really should have NDI support.
