Delete phone number from account
If you ever make the mistake of associating a phone number with your Discord account, it is impossible to remove it without either changing it to a different valid phone number under your control or deleting your entire account. Neither of these are acceptable solutions. It should be a simple process for users to completely delete this potentially extremely sensitive information from Discord's servers. This behaviour also obviously doesn't account for any situation where a user stops having a phone number.
I understand that server admins can set the "verification level" to require new members have a valid phone number associated with their account in order to participate, as a heavy-handed anti-spam measure. It's worth informing the user of this via a confirmation dialogue. If they're a member of any servers with this setting enabled without being assigned a role, they should also be informed that they will no longer be able to participate in those servers once they delete their phone number from Discord.

Well, my issue is:
I have a deleted account with my phone number. Then, I wanted to this phone number to my new account, but it said: "This phone is used by another Discord account." What to do?3 -

If its not possible to remove it, then how the hell did I get a message to my email saying my phone number got removed and added to another account that I dont even know. Somehow some random person has my phone number on thier account and I am unable to add it to my account

This is stupid
So it says that you can reset password using your phone number.
I did this to find out what account my phone number is being associated with.
So I got the code, entered it and it gave me the option to reset my password.
I did that.
Next, it's saying for me to enter my email and password.
Like.... C'MON! I verified on my phone. This is a complete dead end and I have no way to verify discord channels with my active account because it says my number is associated with another account.

This is so dumb. Nothing more to say.
P.S. Some people, man. I have my fair share of inability to read but this is not about not being able to change phone numbers or having to wait for the number to get usable again for another account.
This is about not being able to remove a phone number from your account bcs it gets locked otherwise. Even if 2fa is not activated it forces some accounts and mine, too, to have a phone number.

So this happened to me today, I tried changing my contact number and got locked out..
I can log into this website with my account but the app itself will not let me rejoin due to this message..

I am actually so upset right now with discord..
They just deleted my main discord which got hacked over a month ago and this was my backup account. I'm really really angry and frustrated right now...

Hi Spartacus,
I know how important this account is to you and thank you for the screenshots. Let me look into it.
I just checked with my team, and upon review of your account, it appears that our detection system has triggered successfully and we will not be removing the phone verification requirement on your account. You'll be required to register a phone number to your Discord account in order to continue the use of it.
It's possible that our system detected that you were using a VPN or proxy that was shared with other bad actors, which is why our system flagged your account. However, for privacy reasons, we're not able to share the specifics of the inner workings of our system.
On the other hand, if you're seeing an invalid number error, would the number that you've attempted to confirm be a landline or VOIP phone by any chance or have you already tried to verify this phone number recently for a different account? VOIP and landlines are not compatible with our verification system.
Otherwise, if you have recently attempted to verify this number already, our system will put a timeout on a number from being used again for anti-abuse purposes. You will need to wait for the end of the timeout to use the number once more or use a different number to verify the account. Because the system automatically detects and generates a timeout period when a phone number has been used multiple times to verify an account, there is no exact ETA for when the number will be available to verify another account.
If that's not the case, let me know what number you're trying to register and I'll double check in our system.So I think I've been timed out and there is no ETA for it?...

Just delete my phone number on all linked account (if linked), OR link to my account (I don't care which one are elected, just do anything!)
I did it exactly and in order for me to even add my phone number I have to first verify my main account, which clearly when I try to use the phone number I get the error "This pohne number was recently used on a different account". But not! I read the help section, and i try to write a ticket.. but the Discord team is a nut... I have no idea how long i will gain access back to MY account.. this is really frustrating...

this is kind of false, since my account that has my phone number connected was deleted weeks ago, and it is still saying: "An existing Discord account is already using this number. Please remove it before it can be used with a new account." so it's either Discord's wrong, or you are wrong.

i made this new account and have been trying to add my phone number from my fully deleted account but it still says its in use thats a major problem because im now not able to join many servers cause of this

Hello guys I have a solution to this problem what you want to do it first go to your browser look up discord.com/login the you put your phone number in and hit forget password then you will get a message to change it you then change it to something you will remember then after that use the number and password and hit login it will say something strange is happen and what you want to do it his here it by email this is when you will need another email because you can then change the account with your phone number to a different email then after you put in a different email that isn't currently tied to a discord account it will then let you into the account this problem I pretty sure is from a fake discord login pages and it then make a weird alt account put anyway after you log into the account because you have changed the account to your alt email you can then delete the account that will then free your phone number to be used. Hopefully I have explained it well enough if you want to ask me more questions on this my discord is Firerock#2510 and that is how I got my phone number back.

And what happens if you get a phone number that was previously assigned to someone else's account? Since discord will not show me what account is assigned to my phone number, I have no way of removing said account.

I still find it stupid that discord hasn't fixed this yet. It's so annoying having to borrow a friends phone number (although helpful) the only problem that comes with it is that its temporary. The second the phone number is gone you can't even do anything and have to get another phone number or make a new account. Kinda weird how this problem hasn't been dealt with after all this time.

Long time ago, I made an account, then forgot about it. When I returned to Discord, I made a new account. Tried to associate my phone with it. Oops. Not possible. Went back and tried to remove it from old account, and that wasn't possible. Deleted old account, still won't let me use my phone with my current account. Still giving me error messages about how it's already associated with another account. No way to fix this. WILL NOT BE PAYING FOR SUCH UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE.

Had this happen to me and I wish they would fix this problem I got a whole content creation career hanging on this, am using my siblings number rn but would feel better if it was my number… if they could fix this that would be great

Been trying to get into discord and use it now and then over the years thinking... I must be doing something wrong - I try a new email address - it requires a phone number - my phone number is used - I try logging in to remove my phone number - but I can't login because it requires I verify a code through my phone number - I can't verify my phone number because it is on one of the other accounts. I try doing the same with the other account - and get the same infinate loop of failure.
I contacted support on this issue once and went into very specific detail of trying to cooperate to recover my account and found out my email addresses were mixed up along with my phone number and they refused to delete my account. And yet, I cannot sign into my account to do anything about it with either one.

At this point, ditch discord, delete your accounts, ask for a data packet in line with GDPR, switch to Guilded. My accounts a sitting duck and even if i had the data packet which had my many friends on it and the servers, id have to delete the account and NEVER USE DISCORD AGAIN! Why? Because its something as mundane as "Phone cant get texts" which leaves my account as a dead paperweight thats useless because id have to buy an entirely new phone and enable texts on the monthly bills, which I dont like. Anybody out there wants LESS bills, not TONS OF THEM!
