black screen issue

5 days ago the discord required an update i clicked to update when it's updated i found this screen like that just black :

    same here. i have restarted the computer with no effect. this is only on the desktop version. android seems unaffected

    the previously mentioned fix (run as windows xp svc pack 3 as admin) doesn't work.

    Black screen here too.

    Windows 7.

    Having to run discord through the website app, not desktop app. Which is irritating.

    Jumping on the black screen bandwagon. Windows 8 here, and my mobile app for Discord remains unaffected. This is infuriating as my PC still picks up the notifications from it, I just can't access them on my desktop.

    Edit: Oh, and I even tried wiping Discord from my PC and then re-installing it. Absolutely no change.

    Windows 7 here, tried many different things to fix the black screen.

    There are two things that worked for me, first one I found is disabling my ATI CrossfireX and re-enabling it while discord is running.  The screen would reset and allow me to see the window again.  Obviously that is a bit extreme just to get the app to work each time.

    Second method, I installed it on my admin account (runs fine on my admin account, no issues) and then copied the shortcut from my admin account to my normal account.  Then have to right click the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator" on my normal account and it works fine.

    Hope that helps some other people.

    I am also having this problem

    The whole window is completely black, it seems like I can still click on things I just can't see what I'm clicking on.

    running Windows 7

     

    this problem started after restarting my computer after updating my graphics card drivers

    Was working fine before

    I've tried deleting the %appdata% folder, uninstalling and reinstalling, and running the program as admin.

    Nothing seems to work.

    Thank you SyntheticFX! I had to use it under Windows Vista Service Pack 2 as the other ones didn't work for me (I'm Windows 8), and also you have to watch that you're selecting the actual application and not the icon (it's early in the morning, I'm not quite awake).

    Hope this helps someone else!

    The only way i have found to solve this issue is Restarting my Laptop, but it's only temporary and will turn black way later. For some reason, this also happens with Chrome, but closing and re-opening the app fixes it. But not with Discord.

    I have Windows 10, NO SERVICE PACK 3.

    Only other option is Windows 8, 7 service pack 1 &2, and Vista.

    I chose these settings and it worked

    So I did an uninstall. deleted all app and localapp data (manually deleted the whole hidden folder in teh "users" folder). 

    reinstall. 

    a DIFFERENT black screen issue arised. only becomes black screen upon computer start up. This issue iseasier to resolve.

    All I have to do now is go into task manager and end task for all discord sessions. 

    reopen Discord and done. black screen gone.

    maybe some of you would like to try this.

    just uninstalled and reinstalled, it seems to be working fine for now, if I see this issue again I will come back

    I'm on Windows 10. Setting the compatibility to Windows 8 was already done when I looked at the settings.No matter what other setting I tried, Discord always started up and remained completely black.

    What worked for me was I closed the application (by clicking in the top right corner where the close button would be displayed), then I opened up task manager and closed the three instances of Discord processes I found in there.

    I then started Discord again, and now it displays fine.
