I agree with this, but, some people are just having a laugh thinking this is a joke and putting their pfp as the images from Jonathan Galindo's twitter (the guy behind the images and suspected to be behind the whole start of this) and so they would need to do an investigation on it, but also i feel like trolls would abuse this and report a heap of people, so i feel like yes, but it could be put with the other in app report system that is on laptop atleast, as a high priority sorta thing. But then again people might take this srsly i dont know, i just know some people think its a joke

Even if it’s a joke, but if the kid is depressed or something they might take this as a motivation to commit sucide, it’s like the push they need, and it’s also better to stay on the safe. It’s also not something you should joke about since fbi, other country’s federal agencies have been invoked in the previous events.

Ok, so I have a question on exactly what to do. Since I am a senior Moderator on a Server. We have sent out multiple announcements to everyone making sure they look out for this. They are told to contact Staff (Me being apart of Staff) ASAP and tell them. As a staff member I know I need to take the steps to tell discord. But what exactly does that entail. Do I just use the report system? Even if that takes a longer time for them to get to it? Cause we are given a list of things to tell the "victim" in this case if they get contacted. 1. block them and do not start a conversation with them, then tell Staff asap. So I am just looking for a clear place where and who to report this to so the account can be looked at if they really are trying to harm someone. Just need some help since all I am told as a Moderator is to Tell them to Block them and not talk to them. Thanks for any help you guys can give. I am just keeping my eyes open.

I've been hearing that this challenge may potentially involve hackers that can access things like IP addresses. This information would be used to coax a participant into joining upon opening a DM regarding the challenge, responding to a DM from the challenger, accepting a friend request from a challenger. Is there any credibility to this? I'm asking because I'm an admin for multiple servers.

Many people are taking it as a joke. A friend of mines little sibling just got asked it as a joke. It still was a scary moment for us. I am taking caring of it as we speak. Not something to joke about guys really this is serious.

guys, let me explain something. it is IMPOSSIBLE to get someone's IP through a direct message. most of the people who DM you are trolls anyway, so as long as you aren't stupid and click random links you should be fine!

Hello, i would like to say that it is possible @USIC i have been working with malware and programming for a while, it is possible to import malware when transmitting information through the satellite. trust me, this challenge is real, and if they send a link dont click it, they prbably have some script that reads your ip adress.

yeah its the Link that they send. Just by Dms they can't. If you click on any links they send you though. That is when they can get it.

I alr reported them if you see something called the Pink Whale Challenge that is a good challenge but you should get FBI and police involved that is illegal on what he is doing. (Don't mind the grammar I was rushing)

I got a dm from my girlfriend saying she thinks someone pulled her ip and asked how long it took for someone to get it. I am a cyber security annalist with "Parsons" of Aiken, SC. She sent me some pictures of her being in a GC with a couple of the "Blue whale challenge hackers". She gave me the discord tag of one of the possible hackers specifically "BlueWhaleChallenger#5397" I added him to ask him about the incident and asked if i wanted to play a game then i asked him about it and said he does not answer questions. I then went forward to ask did you pull her ip for him to say

If they say they have your ip address then maybe call the police not as in 911 but a none emergency number

There are some alternate names: A Blue Whale/ A Quiet House/ A Silent House/ A Sea of Whales/ Wake Me Up at 4:20 am.

I also read this on McAfee: This is not a case of malware or virus attacks. It is more related to human psychology and banks on the child’s naiveté, lack of self-esteem and acceptance to a group. Such games have existed and continue to exist and bans won’t prevent their creation. Just like there are fun challenges like the ice bucket challenge and the pink whale challenge, there are also potentially harmful ones that include taking selfies in front of running trains and other dangerous acts. Children by nature are adventurous and dares, no matter how small or big, could satisfy this need for excitement.

Idk your opinion on firearms but now might be the time you need one, I feel like a lot of these people are just sweaty virgins in their moms basement that think this is funny but I’m still gonna be weary of it

isn’t that exactly what USIC said? You can’t get your IP traced if you don’t click links

    1
  • Dr. Noob

Yeah don’t click on any link from random people

    0
  • Dr. Noob

And see if the link is sketchy or not, if it’s long probly not a good idea to click it

The guy behind that Goofy mask is not Johnathan Galindo, it's actually a cosplayer named Dusky Sam. You can find the cosplayer on Twitter.

What of images? I clicked the image I was sent because the text was too small to read and I expected, idk, something related to the server me and the sender shared. It only opened the in-discord preview, to my knowledge.

  • Wow, so how do they get it?

Will a VPN really protect you?
