nitro HD stream trash quality

my friend purchased nitro to stream in hd, he is streaming his game to me right now and the quality is so bad i can actually count the pixels on the screen, the hd setting is definitely active on his end but still the stream just looks like shit

now my question is: do i have to buy nitro too to view streams in hd or is your streaming service just trash?

edit: i live in austria, infrastructure here is good enough to support hd streaming
also, these problems started appearing only in 2021 and i doubt updating my drivers will change anything.
