Was considering purchasing Nitro for me and my friends for Christmas. Not anymore thanks to C/ry/pt/o and NF/Ts
Discord was a safe haven from the bull **** of the world. I could create tight knit communities with like-minded people. It was easy to avoid scams and evil people. Discord wasn't to blame when Youtube took down the music bots. Discord almost had my wallet, when I thought to buy Nitro as christmas presents for myself and some friends. I've NEVER given a service my money before, if that tells you anything about what I thought of Discord before this.
Crypto? Already kinda sus, pardon my Among Us language. But specifically NFTs? I am beyond disappointed, as an artist, I am enraged. NFTs are an excuse to steal our work and make some fake scam currency out of them. I've heard countless horror stories of artists doing a commission for personal use, and then finding out that work was later rebranded and sold as an NFT. Not only is that something they did not consent to in the slightest for use of their work, but then these NFT scammers turn around and make a fortune scamming another person out of their property and hard work, often violating the terms of agreement of the commission.
And that's just from the artist's perspective. This doesn't mention the environmental hazards, nor the fact that NFTs are branded as someone "owning" that piece of digital art, when in reality, it's only a "token", basically a useless receipt. It's a skeevy, manipulative, misleading practice even worse than the average crypto, and I can't believe Discord would so abruptly stoop to such a despicable low.
Even if they backtrack on this decision, I will now never consider buying Nitro again. This just proves to me Discord cannot be trusted to make the right decisions for not only its userbase, but for the world at large.
May someone else make a feasible Discord alternative soon, because I want out.
