Everything is too fast/unreasonable expectations
First off, apologies if this post is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure how to categorize it.
I predominantly use Discord on my phone, and I find it extremely difficult to keep up with all my notifications. This is partly due to how the notifications are delivered, and the lack of a proper notifications list.
There is a notification list for all apps in my phone, which includes discord, but only when it is NOT open. Whether the app is open or not, the notifications pop up briefly at the top of my screen, and if I am trying to do something else, this can be annoyed. But I don't want to push them aside, in case they don't then appear in my notifications list (I don't know for sure, but I don't want to risk it).
If the app is open, I get each notification twice, once from my phone, and once from they app, and they appear on top of each other. But that's not the worst part. They only appear for a few seconds, and if I don't tap on them, they are gone forever. I am in enough servers that I can't really keep track of all of them, and if I don't make a mental note of the server and channel, I am unlikely to be able to track it down.
To compound this problem, when things get busy, notifications can appear one after another, giving me only enough time to skim the comment, and completely miss the context, and I can basically forget about replying. Alternatively, I can focus on a single thread, and ignore all notifications. Either way, its incredibly stressful. I don't have the mental bandwidth do focus on everything I need to, in order to keep up, and I suspect most people would also feel the same way.
Furthermore, when my signal is weak, notifications can open the app, but not the relevant server or channel, and if another one pops up, tapping on them does nothing, and the relevant post will never load.
It seems like, Discord expects anything more than casual interaction to require speed reading, speed typing, perfect memory and lightning fast internet, and a top of the line device.
However, I have a couple of suggestions that could help to mitigate these problems. First, a central notification list, like most social media sites. Discord has a notification list, but it doesn't include most pop up notifications. Second, if pop up notifications could remain in place until tapped on, pushed aside, or the app is closed, it would be immensely helpful. Finally, if pop up notifications can go into the phone's notification list, even when the app is open, this would be amazing. Please could these things be incorporated into future versions, I would be eternally grateful.
