Low Spec Mode
So I want you to try something: open task manager and discord, and then move your mouse around on discord, preferably on a relatively active server / DM. Depending on your system, you will see a varying change in CPU usage and this may be alarming to some of you. This is only one example of CPU usage spikes happening in discord and you'll start to see more if you try playing around a bit with task manager open.
So this is where my idea comes in to play. You see, the reason these CPU usage spikes happen is because of different animations playing, such as when you hover on a message, username or button. These may not sound very significant but when multiple animations are repeatedly playing, coupled with whatever other CPU intensive tasks you may be running in the background, low spec systems may start to suffer.
So what low spec mode would do is disable things such as hover popups on the mute, deafen and settings button as well as on servers and folders. The mode should also disable messages changing colour and usernames being underlined on hover. This would make discord be a lot smoother for users with lower end setups, and may even look better to some very minimalist people. As I don't know much about how discord is optimized, there may be some other tweaks and changes the devs could make to make discord a better place for every computer such as not loading certain text channels / voice channels and not saving certain things to RAM
On top of this, the feature shouldn't be very hard to implement. I believe discord is coded on electron, so removing the CSS hover effects would make discord a lot more optimized, but then again, I don't know much about the back end of discord.
I can definitely see a lot of my laptop using friends benefiting quite a bit from this feature so I think it would keep a lot more people using the app long term.
Thank you for reading and acknowledging my request.
