Give server members the ability to remove their own role.
Server mods can give members unfair roles, obviously a member shouldn't be able to pick their own role but they should be able to remove a role which they actively dislike. Please make this a feature!

I know many servers that use roles as a way of punishment for breaking the rules, using them to restrict their ability to talk in channels normally everyone can, and I can agree its a pretty good way to do it. Obviously this would hinder this particular moderation strategy useless.

Muted role would be completely useless with what you're purposing.
