Different kinds of pings

A red ping (@[user]) is, itself already. A blue ping (@@[user]) that’s basically the red, but expires after an amount of time chosen by the user announcing/replying so its a waste of time if people recently knew about something irrelevant, also allow users to be able to disable the blue ping they hosted when anything ends ahead of schedule. A yellow ping (@@@[user]) only notifies you but doesn’t mark a red ping that you have to check later on to clear your notifications. This would be a HUGE relief that you dont have to check on events that already passed by.
