please change the mobile layout back or give us the ability to choose

This will likely never see the eyes of devs, and it’s extremely unfortunate, because so many people who are active users of discord are utterly appalled by this decision. It makes discord less accessible and unique a platform, and forces adjustments on its users that absolutely no one asked for. I know that the energy around protesting this decision has died down, but every single day that I have to feel trapped  and claustrophobic in a completely unnecessary ui change is a day that I get closer and closer to stopping using it. I have been here since 2017, and have had almost no complaints up until recently with the new overhauls of NIitro, usernames, and the UI. I had classic nitro for almost four years straight, but this latest decision caused me to question whether or not I wanted to be funding the direction this company is going, and the answer I came to is that no, I do not. 

I just wish that this change of the UI was one that at least had the ability to be toggled, because having the platform become more and more like facebook messenger but somehow more cramped and unpleasant is truly depressing. The old UI was perfectly fine, and  swiping around to see everything felt so smooth, quick, and was easy to learn (despite what Discord has been reporting on). Why did this need to be changed? Because the stockholders are demanding it? Surely there could have been a better way around it than making long-time users feel lost in their messaging app of choice for at least half a decade. I can’t tell what DMs I’ve gotten without staring at the screen for a few seconds, I can’t even swipe over to check out who’s online, and I keep accidentally starting threads, which almost no one has ever intentionally done. Discord devs with higher power seemingly do not know what it is that its users want out of this application, because everything keeps being changed in ways that see so much backlash and sink its reputation lower and lower with each update.

 

It just makes me so sad. Discord seemingly continues to distance itself as much as possible from their own userbase, and they used to be so responsive. I miss that desperately. Most of all, though, I just want the old UI back.

    it would be better if there was an option to use either the old layout, the grid view layout from early 2023 and the current layout
