For me, every time Discord updates, because the folder changes names, I have to add the new Discord.exe shortcut to the startup folder to get Discord to start on boot. Simply checking the “Open Discord” on startup option within Discord does nothing for me. Since the folder changes every update, the shortcut points to a nonexistant exe, and I have to manually add it back to my Windows startup folder.

Yeah this type of behaviour is ridiculous and discord really needs to stop creating or renaming the folder that discord is in so this kind of thing doesn't happen, it's 2024 and isn't a hard thing to do, it's just laziness at this stage now and is making me consider deleting my account. Maybe it's a small thing to some but it's an annoyance that shouldn't exist.

Changing folder name by updater breaks also the firewall rules.

All outbound is blocked in my system unless I add the rule for allow it but discord updater changes location of updated version and the rule is obsolete pointing to old location, after update Discord ends up blocked.

One must rely on scripting to update firewall rules automatically.

Also updates brake pinned tray icon as windows 11 cannot find executable file at old location and updated discord is treated as a new program so tray icon is hidden by default unless pinned every update.

Please fix Discord updater and installer according to Kai's ideas.

Yeah, it's wild that my keyboard shortcut to launch Discord has to be set up again after each major update.

It also occurs to me that people who synchronize their files to a backup probably have a backup of Discord from each version they've used. There are probably 100 more reasons why programs don't change their location ever time they update.

While updates are often made to improve the Discord experience, we recognize the  importance of custom air fresheners  minimizing disruptions and providing clear communication when changes are made.

Zoya, this thread has literally nothing to do with car fresheners.

I just don't understand why they insist on this extremely frustrating and completely unnecessary update method…it's so unique I haven't ever came across this prior to damn Discord!

As mentioned by in post above, this dumb way of updating breaks the autostart feature in their OWN APPLICATION! Not to mention the other, way more important path dependent functions for several of my other integral programs part of my setup.
