subscription credit is a scam

So I've recently found that gifting a friend Nitro while they still have some Nitro active causes the gift to turn into something called subscription credit, and from there it is COMPLETELY unusable until you put in payment info and buy Nitro yourself. I discovered this last night trying to give my friend some Nitro as their Nitro Basic was close to running out, and now I've wasted my money.

Needless to say that is a completely stupid design choice. Gifts shouldn't require all of that shit, that's literally the entire point of gifting somebody something. I mean you could AT LEAST have Nitro be redirected to your gift inventory, that would make the most sense. Not just that, but not everyone wants to or has the means to buy their own Nitro, so those people (such as my friend) will never get to use their gifted Nitro.

Discord has been getting shittier anyway with their ridiculous cash-grabbing tactics like making Nitro exclusive features that you have to pay for anyway (avatar decorations, profile effects) and having what should be basic features for everybody be Nitro exclusive (ability to send bigger files, bigger server limit, longer messages). The whole Discord experience has also been getting worse with how hard they keep trying to be like other platforms (needless changes to UI, usernames, etc.). Though I think this right here really shows just how terrible Discord has become. I would go as far to say that the entire turning gifts into subscription credit function is a full-blown scam and is designed just for raking in more money from unsuspecting people. How much lower can Discord get? If it wasn't for most of my friends only using Discord, I would have quit using this horrible platform a long time ago.

I've already emailed Discord Support about this, but as expected, the “support” I got was completely useless and didn't do anything, so I'm coming here to complain.

… and PS, get rid of the shitty new UI for mobile. It sucks and everybody hates it.

Edit: My friend ended up having to pay and subscribe to use their gift, but still, what a crappy thing to have to do just to be able to use something someone bought for you! Horrendous.
