CatX, funny thing is, the existing themes are community provided, meaning discord doesn't even need to develop their own unless they really wanted to

Having the very option to choose between server appearance and personal preference would be perfect

Once again discord would rather ban people that use custom themes than to implement the solution. I dont know how many people i seen recently using client mods to change themes because discord is too lazy to do their job this litterly has over 8,000 upvotes. Discord themes from mods are getting very popular now. People that are using client mods to only change the look of discord are getting treated like criminals and getting their account deleted. This isnt fair so please implement the custom css themes or something to show you care.

I like this, but I don't need images. I'd like to be able to set my own colors or at least have more theme options.

  • what we want as a community is an easy way to change the css so that we can, change the size of assets, move them, recolor them, add background images and generally anything else you could use css for in regards to creating a custom theme all your own on discord.

we want a way to do this, to save and share these custom themes and we want a way to do this native and safely in such a way that we can save and load themes on demand.

i know this is not a tall order and there is already a program that exists that references exactly what we want to be able to do, that plugin is called stylish.

now for everyone that is not a discord admin, if u wanna do custom themes please check out stylish, a plugin for your browser, it will allow you to customize the website based version of discord however you please in a way that is 100% safe and it includes literally everything you are all asking for in one neat little package.

then unfortunately i will be creating a css loader that will be able to apply themes in such a way that discord staff will be unable to tell that any change has even been made, this is something i already do. i will repackage it for use for all and release it if your unwilling to release a safe to use theme editing option.

If Discord would partner with BetterDiscord thus screening the themes with a system to prevent malicious code, the community would be much livelier. With the BetterDiscord comes a marketplace which allows users to create a hub where they can share their creation with the community to download freely. ALSO, it would let the Official Servers/Game Companies to create a themed discord theme for people to download and use.

i saw several threads talking about client-side hexcode customissation which linked back to here desspite client themes and server themes being two very different things. regardless, a custom hexcode theme in which the user would be able to Personalize disscord by having an option to change each default hexcode (or at the Very Leasst the entire colour palette) would be very nice.

or give people a css code editor and let us make our own css theme thats custom to use so its not all the same like one would have a fully red discord theme and the other would have a fully yellow one etc

idk why you want to limit themes, themes are stored locally, they are not stored on their end.
animated themes? there are none of these its either css or css.

they either allow us to modify discord without abusing their api or they implement a page where you can import css and list them in a toggle list.

Just allow us to use Better Discord and then we will be fine

Or, just let let us use custom themes already, without having to worry about bd exploits

Alright lemme explain exactly what we want. We want the ability for people in a server who have the correct permission to upload .css file or use a built in IDE to submit css for the specific guild. Upon joining a server with custom css the user will be prompted if they wanna load arbitrary css or not (make a little tick box so they can choose to automatically always load or not load css and for this to be changable in settings.) There should restrictions in what custom css can do such as only allowing the loading of assets from discord servers so people can't associate an ip with a user by using a personal server to load an image from and corresponding the ip that connected to the image server and the user who joined the guild at the same time. You should look in depth into what css can do to make sure their aren't any possible exploits and to blacklist such code.

You should also allow global client side CSS and options for this to override server specific CSS and exceptions to that and for it to always load server specific css instead of global. We do not want custom javascript that is a thousand exploits waiting to happen.

I would prefer the themes to be independent of the server you are in and just have custom Discord themes as an option for the whole interface, everywhere you're at. Regardless, Custom themes are a feature I'd love to have and so I will upvote this and urge that Discord adds this feature, but perhaps altered in its usage.

it has been 3 years since the initial request, still Discord ignores this. Like come on, let us customize our backgrounds, add different colours, etc.,  instead of the same boring ass grey. People have been asking for this for years now and still nothing.

There are 3rd party software that can allow themes, but I support this idea nonetheless. It can make it easier to express yourself without having to download software.

IMO, it should be CSS based just like what BetterDiscord and other plugins already does, cause if that it'll be easy for the themers out there to implement it and we basically have a lot of themes on those market already, since BD was marked as a ToS violation, I had to stare this boring screen for like the past 8 months now.

    I completely agree.
