Some proportions don't work Intuitively on the new Desktop UI. I think I know why
While the new update is alright in a lot of aspects (it's a pretty neat idea to have the add server buttons be green now) but the problems I've found are in the banner on top of each chat (with Chat name, description, pinned messages etc.). It's mostly just that the proportions have become really out of wack in a way that feels like the UI was designed for the smartphone app.
For more context The text up in that bar has become too small to read properly in a quick glimpse to get an overview. A critical necessity for an app like Discord where you more often than not are jumping from chat to chat, so you need to have the Chat names easy to read so that you can orient yourself.
The other way around the icons have become so large that it becomes a drag to use them. I can see how the idea would work on smartphones where you can use your big fingers to tap anywhere on the screen in an instant so there you need those big icons but not on desktop. On Desktop with a mouse you need to now drag the cursor even longer distances to get from place to place which is a real annoyance when you're just trying to do something simple like find a specific pinned message or a mention you missed.
But then again, this seems like an easy trap to fall into. I've had experiences with other applications like YouTube after they changed their layouts in a similar way and it's still not as intuitive as it was before, even after having had to deal with it for a longer time. It just turns what should be an easy and enjoyable time into a stressfest. And it doesn't help that before the update, Discord had a seemingly perfect layout, with everything in perfect placement and size for an easy, user experience.
Sorry if this was too long for some of you but I really felt like I needed to go in depth to get to the point.
