Existing CTRL + [2-9] hotkeys should respect collapsed folders.
Current behaviour as of the latest build (Release Channel: stable, Build Number: 41907) is the contents of a closed folder take up as many of the 2-9 hotkeys as there are servers in that folder.
E.G. For server list as follows, the hotkey for the first 8 servers are shown below.
- Home Server — CTRL + 2
- Folder: Gaming Groups — None
- Gaming Server A — CTRL + 3
- Gaming Server B — CTRL + 4
- Gaming Server C — CTRL + 5
- Discord Feedback — CTRL + 6
- Folder: Streamers — None
- LoL Streamer A — CTRL + 7
- LoL Streamer B — CTRL + 8
- Apex Streamer — CTRL + 9
- Hearthstone Streamer — None
- Discord Testers — None
This is intuitive behaviour only if the user currently has both folders expanded. With the folders collapsed, users would expect CTRL + 4 to take them to 'Discord Feedback', as it is the 4th option down the list.
I would propose that collapsed folders take only one number from the hotkey, e.g. the folder 'Gaming Groups' would be assigned CTRL + 3. Activating that hotkey opens the folder and then either selects the first server in that folder and maps the rest to CTRL + 4 and above, or just opens the folder and maps the servers to CTRL + 4 and above.
Former:
- Home Server — CTRL + 2
- Folder: Gaming Groups — None
- Gaming Server A — CTRL + 3
- Gaming Server B — CTRL + 4
- Gaming Server C — CTRL + 5
- Discord Feedback — CTRL + 6, from CTRL + 4
Latter:
- Home Server — CTRL + 2
- Folder: Gaming Groups — CTRL + 3
- Gaming Server A — CTRL + 4
- Gaming Server B — CTRL + 5
- Gaming Server C — CTRL + 6
- Discord Feedback — CTRL + 7, from CTRL + 4
Latter would mean the hotkeys stay aligned with vertical position, as the folder icon itself takes up a slot when expanded, but has the minor downside of meaning a CTRL + n activation won't directly switch a server, breaking convention.
A way to collapse the folder again from keyboard only would be necessary, and could be simply done with the latter approach above by activating the folder's hotkey again, and in the former, perhaps by double tapping the hotkey that opened that folder, so in both cases a second press of CTRL + 3
The current implementation discourages me from using these folders to declutter my immediately visible server list because it doesn't 'hide' the clutter from the hotkeys I use to navigate. I hope this was simply an oversight, though that may be naive.
