Linux - Screen Share Sound Support
With Screen Sharing sound already supported on Windows, I would like Screen Sharing to be supported for Discord on Linux as well.
Gaming on Linux exists and does relatively well despite what many naysayers think or wish to believe and having this support for users such as myself would make this less frustrating.
(Not to mention that we're not even mentioned in the supported platforms art along with the other logos at the bottom of the site's webpages...)

The sole purpose of Discord updates is to add more Nitro upsells. They don't give a heck about fixing any of the long-standing issues such as this.

I'm still waiting for Discord to support sound screen share on Linux.

this is starting to become the only reason i don't daily drive linux and it's starting to bother me - and unfortunately it's bothering me to the point that i'm more inclined to stop using discord as much, and to switch to linux anyways

I've been daily-driving linux for a few years at this point on my desktop, and this sole reason was enough to make me start self-hosting a Matrix server. I have much less troubles with Nheko and Element on Linux than I ever did with Discord on any platform.

It rlly is weird how they ignore these issues and instead focus on things that are generally unimportant for the user like nitro features no one asked for. All we want is a desktop client we can use to talk and screen share to our friends with features working by design and using the utilities to your advantage. I don't think I saw one person complain about the UI on mobile but plenty of users complain about the broken features on discord on the Linux client so please fix this. It's been too long now ngl and I don't want to keep using workarounds just to send audio to my friends + having to stop screen sharing because discord doesn't want to use my gpu for encoding a screen share

This is a 4 year ongoing issue gone unfixed, it's clear they're not interested. Also you should know the internal structure at Discord HQ is in complete shambles, nobody can get anything done because of poor management, toxic work environment, with SH in their workplace and an HR who doesn't listen to complaints and feedback from their own staff, let alone feedback and complaints from end users who use Discord client, and even paying out bonuses for being buddy-buddy with certain people at Discord HQ.
Discord has lost its vision, and it's goal, and now it's just going to circle the drain and lose its user base overtime. It's now just another faceless corpo owned company.
My trust in Discord to get anything done, or fix any of these long standing issues is 0%, therefore people will still rely on hack mods and clients to fix issues Discord won't, or just move completely to a different platform like Matrix, which I'm greatly considering, however moving everything over to Matrix, or perhaps Element does take time and effort in setting up, and there is a way to migrate things over from Discord to a Matrix platform.

while i am annoyed too, this is an issue tracker, unsourced rants arent helpful
-2 -
Qbopper This isn't unsourced rants so your assumptions are wrong, and it's not like they give a shit about this issue tracker anyway. You want to see the proof look it up, it's all public.

3 years and 1800 votes later and I don't think I've ever seen even a little peep about this. This is the highest rated feedback in this category, even.

do this 2023! do this 2023!!!

Personally I'm incredibly dismayed this has been on the support requests for going on four years, with this much user attention, with absolutely no resolution.
I wonder if Discord is aware that to solve this one, singluar issue, users had to create a third party client because they've literally ignored this for so long. You know, not advocating anyone go look for it, or use it, of course, that would violate terms of service or something probably. But it's not like the implementation is terribly difficult to do, guys. C'mon.
1 -
Exactly I don't get it either, I know that some devs know about the issue but they can't do anything about it as the people above them don't wanna fix these issues, so it gets ignored :/
Imagine supporting a operating system but half assing it, that's discord with Linux and Mac lol

Its not just about gaming, screen sharing is how you can listen to music or watch content with friends or partner. I recently needed to install Linux for school but cant watch TV with my long-distance girlfriend anymore.
2 -
Use discord screen audio flatpak

Discord is having massive layoffs right now, axing Partnership Programme, so I won't expect them to give a rats ass about this now, it's dead. Discord is dying.
-1 -
This is so ridiculous, this app existed and has been popular in gaming for years and this request's been around also for years and people without the source code figured (imperfect but still working) work around that and mac, which is the opposite of a gaming system, has had this for a while
How is this not on linux yet, absolutely stupid.2 -
4 years, huh?
Really, I have been extremely unhappy about Discord in general, especially their Nitro services. But this, amount the general trash support on Linux, has been the final reason for me to unsub.
Using different clients with hacky patches is not a solution for a company I used to pay for their services. And it even gets much worse, considering that streams in general (streaming AND watching) is broken AF on my end.
If Discord doesn't want (or isn't capable of) fixing this 4 year old issue, despite solutions and ideas existing, then they simply ain't getting any more money from me.3 -

Just wanted to wish a happy third birthday to this feature request!

Woooh, cant wait for the fourth year birthday 🥰🙄

I cancelled nitro because of this bug! I'm getting all my friends to cancel as well until this is fixed. They don't like windows either and regret having to still use a dated operating system that runs slow with lots of security risks. I've been raw dogging Linux for a while and won't go back. Soon they will be too. Linux is inevitable.

+1 Canceling Nitro because of this. Outrageous that it has not been fixed after this long, especially with the popularity of Steam Deck.
1 -
Well discord has been verified on flathub and discord have control of the flatpak now, so hopefully we can see some improvements to screen sharing

Pollux This means nothing, the treatment Discord gets across different platforms will not change. All future changes and upgrades will not be what you expect them to be, they're only focused on Nitro subscription features. Don't expect support to take your feedback or input for anything, because they're basically non-existent.
2 -
Alkaris Clearly they're not focused on nitro, because this issue right here is the one that is the reason many folks refuse to pay for nitro at all. When flashy garbage takes precedence over actual issues people have been asking for for years, why should we pay? What would we be paying for? This here (the main feature people use discord for) is what we'd like to pay them for, but not gonna pay for shitty stickers or crap like that.

I’d really wish they’d update this so my friends and I can watch videos together. I can’t believe they still haven’t done this yet ://

I've started using moonlight+sunshine for screenshares

With how well the Steam Deck is doing, it baffles me that they haven't fixed this yet.

Iv done some research and it seems discord does have devs that use linux internally and have been using the flatpak version of discord
It seems discord does want to start supporting linux again so we will see what happens in the coming months

Pollux Being verified on Flathub changes nothing with the state that Discord is currently in on Linux. You still need to have full commitment to actually fix, change or improve things. This is just a PR move to be like “Hey we actually doing a thing.” but then never actually doing anything they said they would. This is a false hope. Being verified on Flathub means nothing, you need to see full commitment steps to actually improving on something, fix things that have been issues for many years gone unchecked.
