Discord says my phone number is already being used
I am trying set up 2FA. However, Discord says my phone number is already in use by another account. I have never set up 2FA on any account before. How can this be?

I have the same problem as well. My phone number is already in use by another account. I am not using another account.

same here....my acct has no number, so i try to link mine, and i get the same lame message sent to me as text " An existing Discord account is already...blah blah..." ....DISCORD FIX IT FFS this is pathetic

Today this issue was solved for me, by mistake.😁
I was using the web version (on a new fresh installed PC) and I logged in to Discord using the QR code method, scanning the code with the phone app.
After that was receiving a pop-up suggestion in green, to add my phone number to my account, which I did.
It's about the same old phone number which Discord said that was already used by another account.
If you guys still have this issue, worth a try using QR code log in method. Who knows? 🍷

Im having this same issue!! I cannot chat in a server without being able to verify through my phone number but it will not let me add my number to my account without getting the message about having an existing account with the phone number, and to remove the number so it can be used with a "New account" ... Theres no number TO remove ... This is beyond frustrating!! Does anyone know how to fix this yet?

Same problem - I can't post because it says an existing account is already using this number, but neither will it let me add that number to my discord account (and my phone is right here in my hand - why can't you understand that means that I own this number?!?).
Is there a solution? No one from Discord seems to be replying to this thread...

Dude same problem for me. I can't log into my main because when I put my phone number and code and everything it says "this phone number was recently used on a different account" but NO its not. it was being used on my ALT but i REMOVED it so now i cant log into my ALT or my MAIN because discord is bugged out bru.

I have this same issue, I was in a back and forth emails with support and this is what they sent me:
I just checked with my team, and upon review of your account, it appears that our detection system has triggered successfully and we will not be removing the phone verification requirement on your account. You'll be required to register a phone number to your Discord account in order to continue the use of it.
It's possible that our system detected that you were using a VPN or proxy that was shared with other bad actors, which is why our system flagged your account. However, for privacy reasons, we're not able to share the specifics of the inner workings of our system."Apparently discord has a "timeout" for the phone numbers used on accounts but they wont specify for how long.

They literally do not care at all to fix this 2+ year old issue. You can actually abuse this to lock other people's Discords accounts for fun if you know someone's phone number by creating a new one and attempting to verify it using that phone number. It will flag the real account associated with that number and get it locked up until the number "cools down", at which point you can do it again to keep locking it indefinitely.
Great feature, Discord. I don't think I'll be renewing my Nitro anytime soon.

Yup, tried joining a new group like usual and now have this road block. I have had this same phone number for years. Good thing its not an important group. Its a shame to see such poor customer support from some a large company. Clearly their security process is seriously flawed. I was going to contact their support but after reading these comments, whats the point? I like how the verification text message states "an existing Discord account is already using this number", but they don't tell you what the existing discord account name is so you can not resolve the problem. I would gladly remove the existing discord account using my number if I knew what the existing discord account is - THIS IS A CATCH 22. And how did "they" use my number since a verification code is sent to my phone, which basically never leaves my possession?

Ok guys idk if people still have this problem here how I solved mine.
Go to the web version
> try to sign in with phone number
> forgot password
> it send you a code, you put in
> "Ohoh it seems like there is a problem" (discord say in perfect text of speech)
> It ask you to create a new account for some reason (thought the number was already used on another account but whatever)
Ofc you need a new mail address never used for discord that you can confirm the new account with
> Once created just Remove phone number from this new account.
It solved it for me. I hope it do the same for you guys !

Okay the method above that Meiico posted works. just log into account with number, click forgot password type in verification number from text, type in password, then add new fresh email to account and remove number then log out and log into actual account. That’s all THANKS MEIICO!

For me I had accidentally created another account when I thought I had already added my phone number to the main account and tried to use it to login. I logged into that account and removed the phone number and it was fine after that.

This happening to me, too. I've had this phone number for 17 years, so I don't know what's going on. I am 100% certain I have never created another Discord account with it. I've tried the method of logging in with my phone number, but when it gets to the send verification mode setting, it won't send a verification code.
Could this be a problem with international numbers? I'm in the Netherlands. I've tried now with and without the 0 in my number…
The QR method unfortunately also did nothing for me.
