let us pull back the reply pings if we ping accidentally
The pings are annoying especially when there are few people (< 5) chatting and still ping each other. I don't like to ping (or get pinged by) the other people in such situations and sometimes i accidentally ping someone by forgetting to check the box and want to remove the ping. And with the new reply feature that cannot be done by editing the reply (just like we can when quoting someone). So, let us edit the message and remove the pings by ourselves when this happens. Also, the other suggestions for the reply feature are good.

Additionally, make the ping-vs.-not-ping status persist across edits if not changed. When a message that replies to someone without pinging them is edited, the reply unavoidably becomes a ping reply.
