can't edit notifications? help

until the new update my phone was set so that my phone only vibrated if i got dm notifications. now, all notifications vibrate for some reason. on android (my phone is google pixel if that helps?) there's default notifications and silent notifications. i had kept it so that main notifs were default, but didn't make noise or vibrate and appeared on my screen without it. but after the new update, they vibrate and make sound anyway, but the settings in my actual settings app haven't changed. i don't want to mute my servers, because i still want to receive notifications, but i can't find a way to turn off the noise without putting every notification onto silent mode, and silent mode means i won't have them pop up on my screen, which isn't what i want. every notification also seems to have a little ringing bell next to it to convey it makes sound which is annoying because it didn't do that when i had a way to turn it off. all of the other posts for this issue say to just turn off vibration in settings, but doing that hasn't had any effect for me, and muting my messages isn't my intended goal

Yeah, I'm getting the bubble "pop-up" notifications for everything, even though I explicitly have that off ..... This update sucks, I wish I could 'undo' the updating..

Yeah, the pop up notifications are a real problem. I used to have them only on for DMs, which was great, but now they're for... everything. It's distracting and not what I want and I can't find a way to change this, so I would so humbly request one. I don't want to turn off push notifications entirely, but I don't want these pop ups except in places I specifically requested them. Please, please please.
