It's possible that the server actually has a bot that deletes edited messages. They might have it set up like that so people can't be misleading with their messages.

Going to resurrect this suggestion because I myself would love this as a feature. I can spare another column worth of space if it means easier access to switching servers.

I can confirm this. It doesn't matter what setting you have set on the mobile either (never play; play on long press; always play).
