Image gallery cropping
The new way multiple image attachments display on Desktop, where they display in a gallery much like Twitter, brings the same cropping issues as Twitter users have been complaining about for years. To fit images into a roughly square shape, they're cropped, which often ruins art or leaves out important details. While you can see the full image by clicking them, in a live chat environment like Discord I think it's very important to be able to get an accurate impression of an image at a glance without having to stop and view the image separately. Please consider reverting this change, or at least make the gallery layout for attachments optional, ideally on the uploader's end but potentially on the user's end if it's easier.
Example: In both of these images, the character's face is obscured.
Here's how it looks on mobile, which is the appearance I was hoping for:

I have another example and it's even worse. From a worse game, too – I can't say Hero Wars is a good one. But we have a community and a Discord server for it, and we post our screenshots there, e.g. when I defeated two guild-less players, I posted it and at first, I saw it as following:

However, the "upgraded" version looks more like this:

It seems that Discord staff forgot that their social network used to aim at gamers, before it spread a lot more. Their new feature works rather well for galleries of photos, and when someone posts 10-30 images in one message, it can be a major improvement for a gallery-related channel.
However, for people who relied on the original behavior, this feels like a betrayal.
I suppose I'll just stop posting multiple images in one message and I hope Discord staff doesn't decide to just group multiple messages together and make them a gallery as some exciting new feature that they expect to be loved, rather than to result in the users swearing a lot for a few days before they find a way for their messages not to look like utter garbage.

For me, it's not just the image cropping, but also the fact that when I try to open an image in my browser, it downloads the image file to my computer as opposed to opening it in a separate tab or window.

Mosaic / Gallery view of images should be an option, not something that should be forced upon users. I used Discord for social games and admin multiple servers. Mosaic view is horrible for both.

Agreed, this is generally a downgrade. Please either revert this change for desktop (as the feature is more useful for mobile), or letterbox the images instead of cropping them.

I agree; I originally submitted this "feature" as a bug because it was ruining all the images I was sending/receiving and changing their aspect ratios to create unrecognizable images. I also have an example that is even worse. You can use the letter of my friend's name at the left to understand how massively this screwed up the 3 clips I sent another friend.

I will often screen clip a sentence here and there that I want to share with others, from Discord or textbooks or advertisements or whatever. A single sentence on any monitor is just a few pixels in height. This "mosaic mode" has completely ruined conversations with others, as they now have to individually click on every sentence in order to read what they say.
Not to mention, I am a photographer, and this personally offends me greatly. I spend hours of work editing pictures from trips I take, and have a photography-heavy server (plus DMs and pictures shared in other servers). Let's be honest; people scroll by things, they don't click on them to open every single image up. (Also, we CAN'T do that if we're playing a game; we can't easily click out of the game and into Discord just to look at something that should be visible immediately.) My carefully framed images are now ruined when I share batches of them, as the aspect ratios are no longer accurate, and my pictures are instead shown to everyone as confusing bits and pieces. (An example here. None of those pictures actually look like that; they've instead been enlarged or cropped to be nothing like I had originally done, and the full image can only be seen by clicking on it.)
It's utterly heartbreaking, and is the only reason that, after 6 faithful years of enjoying Discord and using it basically all day to be with my friends and loved ones, I have come here to submit this feedback. Please, I beg of whoever has the power to make this something you can opt out of, please do so! This is a terrible and incredibly frustrating thing to deal with!

This change is awful, please revert it or make it an option.

I really do hope this gets reversed, or becomes optional. I have similar issues to the people above me as a 3d artist and programmer, often sharing art and text with people, and this completely ruins that.
For example, one big issue for me has been mobile bug reports, it makes telling what's wrong so much harder at a glance, and when there's alot being sent that makes my life a*lot* harder. Especially when they're so compressed...

If Discord Inc. wants to do this properly, catering perhaps to some new users without throwing the old users under the bus, I can give you a free analysis of business requirements that could fit it.
(I actually started my own thread on this analysis, so I'm removing it from here.)
Either way, if changes aren't appreciated by a large portion of the user base, it doesn't take an analyst to see that this can alienate a lot of users and UX should be done properly on gamers as well. They might, after all, go back to TeamSpeak or start looking for other alternatives.

Image Gallery Cropping is an essential feature of Discord that allows you to crop your images for a more professional and aesthetically pleasing look. With this tool, you can easily adjust the size and proportion of your photos and make sure they have the perfect fit for your Discord DE servers. So instead of having to manually resize and crop your images, you can now do it in just a few clicks!

Discord should add this image cropping feature in realtime uploading just like in wordpress webs. Where when we upload there is feature to crop or resize the image according to our choice.

Frank, I disagree. Wordpress has it because the picture will then be used in an article as a miniature, or something like that. In a place where you need to reach some fixed aspect ratio.
Discord doesn't really need anything like that. Your images are shrunk to fit the maximum width of image, and that's it. Or at least it's been that until recently when we got this "exciting" new feature. Discord inc. also clearly doesn't care about its users, the only support we can find here is each other's.
A flood of posts about this feature breaking it for many people only really hit deaf ears when it comes to Discord staff.

If not fully revert could they at least give us an option to turn this off? Discord needs more customizability anyways

Please fix the awful looking images. Why does Discord punish users by making images so ugly ? Will they ever listen?? I have very little hope they will fix it, which is one reason I am starting to hate using this app, the management is really bad.
