An advisory to listen to your Community regarding the Username Change

Dear Discord Team,

I cannot understand how you think that your pending username change is a well-thought out idea, and that's ignoring all the backlash you have already suffered from it!

Not only is the removal of discriminators removing what made Discord usernames unique, it is also a step that only fuels the issue of impersonation further, an issue which to my knowledge is still occurring often enough without this change.

Plus, the argument of 40% of users not knowing their discriminators just seems plain faulty to me, your dev team already had guaranteed ways to easily copy and paste usernames plus discriminators with a few simple clicks/taps, so there is no need to memorize them, as your UX had already assured that getting the info ready for sharing with others was simple. Although, it could be made a bit more obvious, I'll secede to that.

Furthermore, the issues that were stated in the blog post are not issues that inherently lie in the system that is already established, it is solely user error, namely miscommunication, and removal of discriminators isn't gonna change that, no matter if I have the four digits or not, a friend might misunderstand me when I tell them what my new fancy username is, so in the end it resolves barely anything!

I cannot fathom how you call this solution anything more than the half-baked other ideas that you allegedly had. You want us to imagine a place for communities, yet all your recent changes have done is rile up said communities against you, maybe it's time you listen to the communities that you've provided a place for.

But hey, that's just me.

Yeah, their 40% figure is complete hogwash. They don't cite any actual data, probably because they didn't bother collecting any, and even if they had, it's probably MAD biased. And their screenshot they use for "people don't know what a discriminator is" is a reddit post asking what it's called, NOT what it's FOR. totally different questions that they went ahead and said were the same question! Their reasoning is bogus!
