Feedback: Selling Discord, Advertising, CCP

I wish the team at Discord the best and hope you can remain independent and true to the spirit that won us (gamers) over!

That said, if advertising arrives on the platform, I'll cancel my account as I have with cable TV - I won't pay to be advertised to, nor do I want my life interrupted with advertisements.

Further, if a Chinese company (i.e. Tencent) gains a controlling interest in Discord, I'll similarly cancel my account.  The CCP may already be spying on almost everything, but I will never give them both money AND consent to monitor my communications.

    I don't want any Big Tech company to own it, but especially not Microsoft or Tencent. Tencent will likely implement strict censorship rules on users and channels, which is deadly for fandom, which has flocked to Discord as a safe haven, much like we flocked to AO3. Microsoft and Google both have a habit of stripping away all the good things in a chat program to make it more marketable, add ads, and then abandon it when they realize there's no profit. 

    Selling Discord might be a good move in terms of profits, because that's a lot of money, but it's not in the best interests of the user.
