Discord, make this happen, please :)

I think this feature would be great for Discord! Been constantly looking up ways to lock in a caller's video screen to prevent the inevitable jump when someone disconnects or turns off their camera. NDI would solve that and would make Discord the only tool we need for community (instead of juggling Discord for chat, Skype for video calls due to NDI support, etc.).

As someone else mentioned, I'd definitely subscribe to Nitro if it was solely a paid feature as well.

@Pannetje NDI would not solve that problem. NDI would have to create a new stream every time a new call was created, and that stream would get destroyed when the call ended, it wouldnt lock up the screen, it’d work similar to how ndi in skype works, not a discord thing, its just how ndi and the ndi sdk work.

rocknrollgeek If Pannetje's issue is the same as mine, it definitely would. Using Skype, I can create an OBS video source from each Skype user's video feed. I don't see why Discord can't do the same. Yes, of course, you'd need to create a new source for each user, but that's kind of the point. It's for streamers who tend to stream with the same people consistently, or at least they expect to stream with a set of people for a single stream.

@smurph he mentioned the jump when someone disconnects, the ndi source would get destroyed the second someone does that, just like it does with skype. You can’t add the ndi source in obs until a call is active and a new ndi source is created, and obs will lose that source when the session gets destroyed upon disconnect.

rocknrollgeek Yes, but if you're using Discord, it screws up everyone's feed because, currently, the only way to segregate feeds is by using screen captures. Once someone leaves/joins, everyone's feed shifts around. Using Skype & NDI, you can capture each feed in a separate (named) video source, and if that person leaves, yes it just freezes, but it doesn't affect anyone else's feed. If someone leaves and re-joins, they will pop back in exactly where they were in OBS (or whatever streaming app you're using).

BTW, you can add an NDI video source by name even if the Skype user is not in the call. The drop down shows you currently active streams, but you can type whatever username you need.

If this feature does get implemented (please Discord get on this), I would really hope they let you have "Active Speaker" as a source as Skype does. In order to avoid too much clutter on my streams, especially games I play with bigger groups like Civilization VI, I have two webcams: me, and active speaker. That way I'm constantly on display on my channel and then it will automatically cycle through other players in the other feed depending on who is talking.

I gave up on waiting for this and went with Obs.ninja. The video feed is nearly perfectly in sync with the audio from discord such that 99.99% of the time you won't even notice. This should be a feature built into Discord but alas... it takes a lone individual developing something in their spare time to deliver what we need.

just add an option in the settings to allow others to record your video. we need this.

For some reason I was very optimistic about this latest update, but of course still no NDI. Just hopping back in the thread to try to get it on Discord's radar.

FYI, I have worked around the problem by switching to OBSNinja, which is excellent.
I have a regular livestream with four other people and I've given them each a custom login URL for OBSNinja, which means OBS can access a seperate browser source for each of their video streams. Set up once, works week after week without having to crop anything or even have chat windows open. If they drop connection it doesn't affect anyone else and they just pop back in when they reconnect.
And you can feed the OBS virtual camera back to your chatroom so the participants see the final mix instead of the default video chat.

Just an update to my previous comment.

If anyone needs an alternative to Skype NDI, while we wait for discord to implement it (if they ever do), then I would suggest "OBS Ninja". I tried it yesterday, in a stream with 3 people, and it worked really well!

I've been using VDO.Ninja (previously named OBS.Ninja) for about 9 months now, and it has worked perfectly for me as an NDI replacement. I had 9 people sharing their webcams with me through it once and it worked great on stream.

I highly recommend using it, at least until Discord pulls their finger out of their arse and adds their own NDI support!

Skype has this feature, Discord needs it... As live streaming is becoming more & more main stream, Discord need to incorporate this if they want to keep up with the competition. The majority of your users are gamers & streamers. These are the types of features we love.

Even if it was a Nitro only feature. I would happily pay for that.

    Thanks.

+1 for NDI or Decklink support. Or even a way to easily capture individual video sources cleanly into OBS for output to NDI/Decklink there. Anything to get individual video sources to a broadcast switcher is critical to a lot of esports broadcast workflows

To everyone who is using skype because of NDI I hate I have to say this but Microsoft teams lets you do conference calls now and get an NDI feed for each person. I guess this is because Microsoft buying Skype / Lync and now wanting to integrate that and hopefully get rid of it for Microsoft teams for their solutions for conference calls and so much of it using streaming.
