Collapse sidebar when not in use
Allow an option to collapse the sidebar similar to on mobile when the window is thinner than it is tall, this would allow for those who wish to use discord in a mobile-like layout on desktop (eg an ultrawide monitor with discord only taking up a small horizontal portion) to be able to prioritize actual chat messages over static (for the most part) ui. This could be integrated in a similar way to OneNote's sidebar IMO.

I second this! It's really annoying that I can't have a document or a webpage open next to discord because discord takes up too much room. The sidebars alongside the chat should be collapseable on desktop as they are on mobile.
